John Arlotta named special adviser to General Atlantic

Growth equity firm General Atlantic has appointed John Arlotta, former chairman and chief executive of Coram and NeighborCare, as a special adviser.

Arlotta will support General Atlantic’s approach to partnering with growth companies in the healthcare sector.

Arlotta joins General Atlantic’s network of healthcare-focused current and former special advisers, which includes Dr. Mark McClellan, former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Brent Saunders, formerly of Schering Plough and now chief executive of Bausch & Lomb; and Tracy Bahl, former chief executive of Uniprise and the current executive chairman of Emdeon.

General Atlantic has been active in the healthcare sector for nearly three decades. Its recent investments include Emdeon, a provider of healthcare transaction services; Qualicorp, a Brazilian provider of diversified insurance brokerage and benefits administration services; and amedes Group, one of the largest German clinical lab groups.

Jonathan Korngold, head of General Atlantic’s global healthcare team, says: “John brings unparalleled insight and experience in the area of specialty provider services, which represent some of the most attractive subsectors in healthcare. We are excited to welcome him to the GA team in this important role.”

Arlotta says: “I look forward to actively supporting the GA healthcare team in evaluating the latest industry trends on a global basis. General Atlantic has a long and successful history supporting healthcare companies, and GA’s focus on global growth is an important differentiating factor in today’s environment. I am also excited to work closely with GA’s portfolio companies on their future growth initiatives.”

Prior to joining General Atlantic, Arlotta served as chairman, president and chief executive of Denver based Coram, a privately held provider of home infusion and specialty pharmacy services. The company merged with Apria Healthcare in December 2008.

Prior to Coram, he served as chairman and chief executive of NeighborCare, a Baltimore based public company in the business of providing pharmaceutical products and services to nursing homes. He joined NeighborCare in July 2003 and took the company public in December of that year.

Arlotta has also served as president and chief operating officer of Caremark Rx and as chairman, president, and chief executive of HealthCall.
