King & Spalding has appointed Thomas (Ted) E Keim, Jr as a partner in the firm’s Corporate, Finance and Investments practice group in Chicago.
Keim will focus on mergers and acquisitions, and corporate representation for the firm’s public and private company, and private equity clients.
“Ted is the consummate team player with experience across a diverse range of industries, including pharmaceuticals/life sciences, manufacturing/industrials, and automotive, making him the ideal cornerstone for the transactional practice in the Midwest,” says Todd Holleman, head of the firm’s Corporate, Finance and Investments practice group. “Adding depth to our corporate bench is a key part of our overall strategy, so we are excited to introduce him to our clients.”
Keim focuses primarily on M&A and general corporate representation for public and large private companies, private equity and prominent family offices. He also has significant experience with corporate reorganisations and restructurings, investment and venture capital transactions, and joint ventures. Keim joins the firm from Latham & Watkins, where he formerly served as the head of the corporate department in their Chicago office and on Latham’s Strategic Client Committee.
“Having worked with Ted, I have seen him lead complex, high-value transactions and build cross-discipline teams that have a strong client-service focus,” says Zachary Fardon, office managing partner and head of litigation in the firm’s Chicago office. “He is a perfect cultural fit for King & Spalding, with the right balance of legal experience and the leadership skills needed for building out a practice here in Chicago.”
Keim earned his JD from the University of Chicago Law School and also his BA, summa cum laude, from Yale University as well as a MA in International Relations from Cambridge University. He has been recognised by Chambers USA since 2009.
“There has been significant momentum at King & Spalding over the past decade and more recently in its corporate practice, as evidenced by several high-level hires and the investment the firm is making in strengthening the corporate practice in Chicago, New York and internationally,” says Keim. “I am impressed with the firm’s focus on its long-term strategy and how that aligns with its clients’ needs. As a lifelong Chicago resident, I am excited to work with my new colleagues to continue to develop the firm’s transactional practice in this exciting market. It was an opportunity too good to pass up and I am thrilled to be helping to grow the Chicago office.”
Keim is the sixth partner to join King & Spalding’s Chicago office since it launched in September 2017. In January, Bradley Giordiano joined, following Zachary Fardon, Patrick Collins, Jade Lambert and Patrick Otlewski.
