Madison Williams, a capital markets and investment banking firm, has formed a placement and advisory group with fund placement veteran James J. McCarvill, Jr.
The group, called Madison Williams Private Capital Solutions, aims to raise capital for private equity, real estate and real asset funds as well as selected operating platforms and direct investment opportunities.
Bill Sprague, president and chief executive of Madison Williams, says: “We are very excited about partnering with Jim and his team. By working together, we will be the only comparable firm offering the breadth of fund placement services to leading institutional investors, as well direct capital raising for growth companies and platforms in the energy, power and infrastructure sectors.”
McCarvill was the head of real asset funds while at C.P. Eaton Partners and was responsible for leading many of the fundraising efforts for energy, infrastructure and commodity funds.
Prior to that he had worked in the fund groups of Lehman Brothers, Bank of America and Farrell Marsh.
Former clients include Alinda Infrastructure Fund, Alterna Core Capital Asset Fund, Arclight Energy Partners Fund, Hudson Clean Energy Fund, Teays River Agriculture Fund and the Tenaska Power Fund.
“We are constantly looking for new market opportunities and emerging managers with distinct competitive advantages that offer investors unique alternative solutions,” says McCarvill. “Looking at the state of the current fund raising environment, 2009 was a good time to be building a new firm and now, while the market is still challenging, there are growing interest and allocations out there for select managers and strategies, especially in real assets and emerging markets where we are focused.”
Joining Madison Williams Private Capital Solutions in New York is Derek Dietrich who was previously in the fundraising groups of Fortress Investment Group, Lehman Brothers and Deutsche Bank. He will head up distribution in North America as a managing director.
Basak Araz, who recently had her own advisory firm, will head up project management in North America as a managing director. She also worked in the fundraising groups of Lehman Brothers, Atlantic-Pacific Capital and Deutsche Bank.
McCarvill and Madison Williams have also formed a global alliance with some of his former partners that have created similar firms in Europe and Asia. Anne Gales and Bruce Chapman have formed Threadmark based in London and Ed Greene has formed Diamond Dragon Advisors based in Hong Kong.
