The offshore region recorded more M&A transactions in the first half of 2019 than in the same time period over any of the past five years, according to a report released by offshore law firm Appleby. The latest edition of Offshore-i, an Appleby report that provides data and insight on merger and acquisition activity in the major offshore financial centres, focuses on transactions announced over the first six months of 2019. Standish Management, a provider of fund administration services to private equity, venture capital, and real estate managers, is to acquire Halsey Group, a Luxembourg-based fund and corporate services provider dedicated to international private equity and real estate investment firms. Terms of the deal have not been announced. The acquisition extends Standish’s service offering and brings together Halsey’s long-tenured team and large client base across the US and UK, with Standish’s reputation and expertise across PE, VC, and Real Estate funds. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and upon closing Halsey Group will change its name to Standish Management Luxembourg.
Origis Energy has sold a 41MW ground-mounted solar PV portfolio to ForVEI II, a joint venture (JV) between VEI Green and Foresight Group (Foresight). The 41MW portfolio comprises 34 ground-mounted solar PV projects located in Italy totalling c.37MW and one ground-mounted solar plant of 4MW in Slovakia. The solar plants have been fully operational since 2010-2011 and are remunerated under a long-term Feed in Tariff (FiT) scheme awarded by the GSE. Cynosure develops, manufactures, and markets medical aesthetic treatment systems for dermatologists, plastic surgeons, medical spas, and other healthcare practitioners.The company’s broad portfolio of products spans several major categories, including skin revitalisation, body contouring, hair removal, and women’s health. Cynosure sells its products through a combination of direct sales and distributors in over 130 countries and supports its provider partners with a range of technical, clinical, and support services. NovaQuest Capital Management, a healthcare and life sciences focused private investment firm, has held the final close of NovaQuest Private Equity Fund I (Fund I) with USD275 million in total capital commitments. Aruwa Capital Management (Aruwa), a female founded and led private equity firm focussed on Nigeria and Ghana, has launched a USD20 million co-investment vehicle. Aruwa‘s mission is to provide patient growth capital to established and rapidly growing companies in the small to lower middle market and it expects to execute four to five investments, averaging US USD1-5 million, over the next 24 months.   To date, capital has been raised from international and West African based family offices and high-net-worth individuals. CFA UK’s Certificate in ESG Investing, the first qualification of its kind in the UK, will be available to investment professionals from December. The Certificate has been introduced to meet the increased demand for ESG knowledge and skills in the investment sector and is already seeing high uptake.   In the UK, over 500 candidates are already signed up to complete the course; they will be able to take the exam from 2 December 2019.   The launch follows a pilot programme conducted in September 2019, which was designed to ensure that the training materials developed for the qualification were
Fintech company Capitolis has completed a USD40 million Series B funding round led by Spark Capital and SVB Capital. Existing investors, Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital and S Capital also participated in the round, bringing the total capital raised to date to USD70 million.
