Hogan Lovells has advised Monzo, a UK digital, mobile-only bank, on its biggest ever crowdfunding round. Monzo has just published a prospectus in connection with a GBP20 million raise from its existing customers. Private investment firm Atar Capital has completed the acquisition of Microcel Corporation, a distributor of technology products in Canada, partnering with Rick Henry, Founder of Microcel. Henry will remain a shareholder and will continue as Microcel’s President and CEO. Lotus Clinical Research (Lotus) of Pasadena, California, has entered into a private equity partnership with DFW Capital Partners and has added Jeffrey Kinell and Kurt Brykman to its board of directors in conjunction with the investment. Kinell was previously the CEO of Bracket Global, a leader in the clinical trials technology space, and CEO of CRI Lifetree, a leader in clinical trials for special populations (subsequently acquired by PRA). Palatine Private Equity has completed the secondary buyout of CET UK, a specialist provider of infrastructure and property assurance services. Palatine has taken a majority stake in the company, which employs over 470 staff and was established in 1989 in Castle Donington. The deal was supported by debt and working capital facilities from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank Acquisition Finance and Beechbook Capital.   The property assurance arm of the business provides specialist claim response, property risk investigation and issue mitigation services for the UK insurance claims sector. Mayer Brown’s Private Equity team has advised The Halifax Group and Management on the sale of Pirtek Europe, an on-site provider of hydraulic hose replacement and associated services across Europe, to PNC Riverarch Capital, a US-based private equity firm. Carey Olsen has experienced the largest growth of any Jersey law firm in the number of investment funds it advises, according to Monterey Insight’s 2018 Jersey Fund Report. The 24th edition of the annual report, which provides a comprehensive analysis of all funds domiciled, serviced or distributed in Jersey reported that Carey Olsen now provided legal advice to 670 such funds at the end of June 2018 – an increase of 162 (31.9 per cent) over the year. Commercial Lending at Paragon has led profit growth for the banking group over the past year, according to the Groups latest annual results. The Commercial Lending division, which includes asset finance, motor finance, structured lending and development finance, reported the largest increase in profits across the Group – a 41 per cent increase to GBP20 million compared to the same period last year.   Overall, underlying profits for Paragon Banking Group grew by 8 per cent to GBP157 million for the 12 months to 30 September 2018, up from GBP145 million the previous year.   Acquisitions of property development finance
