Nebraska-based McCarthy Group has announced that former US senator Chuck Hagel will join its private equity business, McCarthy Capital Corporation, as senior adviser.

Hagel will maintain offices in Omaha and Washington DC.

‘We are privileged to have Chuck involved in our business again. Chuck has a number of national and international opportunities so we are particularly pleased he has chosen to maintain his strong connection to Nebraska in working with us,’ says Mike McCarthy, chairman of McCarthy Group.

Hagel says: ‘I look forward to rejoining McCarthy Capital’s accomplished team to continue making quality investments.’

Hagel was elected to the US Senate from Nebraska in 1996 and was re-elected in 2002. While in the Senate, Hagel served on the banking committee, the foreign affairs committee, the housing and urban affairs committee, and the intelligence and rules committee, among other committees.

Prior to his election, Hagel was the president of McCarthy & Company.

Before joining McCarthy & Company, Hagel was deputy administrator of the Veterans Administration; president and chief executive officer of the Private Sector Council; deputy director and chief operating officer of the 1990 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations (G-7 Summit); president and chief executive officer of the World USO; and co-founder of Vanguard Cellular Systems.

Hagel is a director of Wolfensohn and Company, a member of Corsair Capital’s board of advisers, and serves on many charitable and public service boards.
