Carey Olsen’s investment funds team in Guernsey, together with fund administration specialist Private Equity Administrators Limited (PEA), have assisted Creandum on the establishment of Creandum V, a EUR265 million venture fund focusing on early-stage opportunities across Europe.
Following strong demand from existing and new investors, Creandum V was heavily oversubscribed and enjoyed re-commitments from all institutional investors in Creandum IV, while also attracting several new investors primarily from the US. The fund will follow the same strategy as previous Creandum funds and provide early stage investment for European technology companies.

AURELIUS Equity Opportunities has agreed to sell its subsidiary Solidus Solutions (Solidus) to funds advised by Centerbridge Partners for an enterprise value of approximately EUR330 million.
Solidus is the leading European producer of sustainable fibre-based packaging solutions for food, beverage & horticulture, consumer goods and industrial applications. The deal represents AURELIUS’ largest exit to date achieving a money multiple of approximately 16x over the four years of ownership. The transaction is subject to the approval of the competent antitrust authorities and consultation with the central works council of Solidus Solutions in the Netherlands which is expected to happen in Q3
The Maples Group has been selected to provide Cayman Islands legal advice and trustee, management company, fund administration and directorship services to Indo-Japan Emerging Technology & Innovation Fund.
The Fund will invest substantially all of its assets into Indo-Japan Emerging Technology & Innovation AIF (the FoF), a USD187 million fund-of-funds managed by Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management Ltd (RNAM), the Indian asset management arm of Nippon Life. The Fund will be offered in Japan to Japanese institutional investors.

Private markets general partners have continued to adopt third-party fund administration at a rapid rate, which aligns with the overall rising interest in this asset class among institutional investors, according to the 2019 eVestment Alternative Fund Administration Survey.
The median respondent grew real assets under administration by +20.64 per cent year-over-year and private equity and debt AUA by +11.35 per cent, according to the survey.

Apex Group (Apex), has successfully closed the acquisition of the Corporate and Private Client Services (CPCS) and Throgmorton businesses of Link Group’s Asset Services division.
The acquisitions add over 600 employees and 6,000 clients to the Apex Group, across multiple markets, and bolsters Apex’s corporate services capabilities adding specialist hubs in the UK, Jersey, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Hungary and Switzerland.

Headline numbers signal that Private Equity is falling out of love with IPOs as an exit route. Globally, the value of PE-backed IPOs surged in the 2013-2015 period, but have been on the decline since. The value of IPO exits in 2018 (USD24 billion) was just one-fifth of the 2014 peak (USD118 billion).
Across Europe, the value fell from EUR26 billion in 2015 to EUR8 billion in 2018, with deal numbers down from 49 to 13.
Warburg Pincus, a global private equity firm focused on growth investing, has held the final close of Warburg Pincus China-Southeast Asia II a USD4.25 billion companion fund that will invest in Chinese and Southeast Asian portfolio companies alongside Warburg Pincus Global Growth (WPGG), a USD14.8 billion global, growth-focused private equity fund that closed in late 2018.
Warburg Pincus China-SEA II is also the successor fund to Warburg Pincus China, a USD2.2 billion companion fund that closed in December 2016. Within China, Warburg Pincus is known as Hua Ping (华平).

RedRidge Diligence Services has appointed Tom McClay to its New York office as Director. McClay will be responsible for providing buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence services for private equity groups, investment banks and corporate clients in North East USA.
McClay has extensive experience in financial due diligence, transaction structuring, deal negotiation and post-transaction assistance, having held a number of senior roles within the financial services space. Most recently, McClay served as Director at Grant Thornton LLP where, among other responsibilities, he supervised buy and sell-side financial due diligence.
