CheckRecipient, a machine learning start-up that aims to end the problem of misaddressed emails, has raised USD2.7 million in a round co-led by Accel and LocalGlobe, with the participation of Winton Ventures, Amadeus Capital Partners and Crane. Private equity fund manager Calculus Capital has closed its Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) fundraising after reaching its GBP20 million target three months earlier than anticipated. John Glencross, Calculus Capital chief executive, says: “Appetite for investing in unlisted UK smaller companies through the EIS has been growing year-on-year. And it’s not surprising, given the breadth, depth and potential of the investment opportunities available, coupled with the extremely attractive tax reliefs that come with EIS funds, including 30 per cent income tax relief, no CGT or IHT, and high returns that can be generated.”   Calculus says the range and quality of investment

Independent trust, fund and corporate services provider Crestbridge has established a presence in the GCC following its acquisition of Ohad Trust, a Bahrain-based trust, fund and corporate services provider in Manama. Shore Capital Partners, a private equity firm focused exclusively on the healthcare industry, has held the first and final close of its second institutional private equity fund, Shore Capital Partners Fund II, at the hard cap of USD190 million. Fund II, raised in less than three months, surpassed its original target of USD150 million and was substantially oversubscribed with investor demand approaching USD750 million.    Fund II will continue the investment strategy employed by the Firm’s predecessor fund and invest primarily in control buyouts, focusing on microcap healthcare businesses.    With Fund II, Shore now manages a total committed capital
ISG Technology, a portfolio company of private equity firm WestBridge Capital, has appointed Jonathan McKay as non-executive chairman. McKay has a strong background in strategic development, sales, marketing and general management, gained in the technology sector.   He is currently chairman at JustGiving, the UK’s largest online fundraising platform; La Fosse Associates; Driftrock; Cambridge Broadband; and Forward Partners. Golding Capital Partners (GCP) has received commitments of EUR331 million for its private debt investment programme, Golding Private Debt 2016. After five months of fundraising this means 55 per cent of the EUR600 million target volume has already been secured at first closing.   "With interest rates at their current low levels, alternative investments are indispensable for institutional investors. Amadeus Capital Partners has joined a Series C investment round of USD15 million in Turkish online payment specialist iyzico. Repositive, the company that created a portal for accessing human genomic research data, has closed a Series A funding round of GBP2.5 million.
