Midlands-based eTech, which provides an end-to-end software solution to customers in the energy assessment and mortgage valuation sectors, has secured GBP1.25 million in funding from Finance Birmingham. The investment will allow the firm to further develop its existing product offering and generate additional traction in the surveying and lending sector.   Over the past three years, eTech has invested heavily in developing and launching applications to improve the way residential surveying firms schedule jobs, perform property valuations, store the valuation data and report that information back to lenders.   The firm, which currently employs more than 140 people at its
Equistone Partners Europe, an investor in mid-market buyouts, has appointed Steven Whitaker as chief operating officer (COO). He will be based in the firm’s London office and begins his role with immediate effect.   Whitaker joins Equistone after seven years at Vision Capital, where he was chief operating officer and prior to that chief financial and compliance officer. An uncertain environment in 2016 caused by the UK’s referendum on European Union (EU) membership and US elections has negatively impacted M&A activity, setting global M&A back 26.6 per cent during the first half of 2016. In a second financing round totalling EUR6.4 million, THEVA has taken eCAPITAL on board as lead investor and the Bavarian Growth Fund as co-investor. Target Partners and the Bayerische Beteiligungsgesellschaft (BayBG) became shareholders in 2012 in the first financing round. Both have now increased their investment.   THEVA Dünnschichttechnik has invested millions in recent years to set up the first superconducting wire manufacturing facility in Germany. International law firm Proskauer has represented private investment company Bruin Sports Capital in its acquisition of deltatre. Based in Turin, Italy, deltatre provides a range of digital and broadcast solutions for the world’s largest sporting events, federations, media partners and brands.

   Launched in January 2015, Bruin focuses on investments in sports, media, marketing and branded lifestyle companies.   Proskauer previously represented Bruin in a transaction with the National Football League to form a new holding company to run the NFL On Location event and hospitality business.

The famous foreign policy dictum “Trust, but verify” could also be the motto of private equity limited partners (LPs), according to a report from eVestment highlighting LP due diligence trends. In the global survey, while 72 per cent of LPs said they often trust the high-level performance numbers provided by private equity general partners (GPs), 75 per cent of LPs said they always or often recalculate those manager-provided numbers as part of their due diligence process.   As one survey participant said, recalculating those numbers is “a required process as part of both fiduciary responsibility and our own understanding.”

Jersey Finance has appointed An Kelles (pictured) as business development director for Greater China, to spearhead its strategy across the Far East. Based in Jersey Finance’s Hong Kong office, Kelles will be responsible for expanding Jersey’s range of activities in the region, identifying opportunities for Jersey financial services businesses, and building relationships between Hong Kong, Greater China and Jersey. Kelles takes over the role from predecessor Yumei Zhang.   Originally from Belgium, Kelles joins Jersey Finance from the Intertrust Group’s Hong Kong office, where she was business unit director for the European and private equity teams. The EMEA region has lost ground on its US and Asia-Pacific counterparts in sponsor-backed tech investments over the last five years, according to a report released by S&P Global Market Intelligence. Innova Capital, a Central European private equity firm, together with its partner OPTeam, which is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, has invested in Polskie ePłatności (PeP). PeP will become a platform for the consolidation of the electronic payments sector in Poland.
