Advise Technologies has released upgraded reporting and electronic filing software for the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) to coincide with the new guidelines released by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
On 1 October, ESMA released final guidance on reporting obligations under the AIFMD. The release included a consolidated reporting template, an opinion letter, and updated technical specifications, all of which have been incorporated into Advise’s revamped software to provide a working solution that fully reflects the most recent guidance.

First Light Asset Management has selected Market Street Advisors’ Archer MSA investment management platform and a full suite of operational services from MSA Ops.
First Light was established in September 2013 by chief executive and senior portfolio manager Matt Arens and managing director Brett Johnson.
First Light needed a turn-key solution from a company with extensive knowledge of separately managed accounts and back office expertise.

Allen Edmonds, a maker of high-end men's shoes, is to be acquired by Brentwood Associates, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Allen Edmonds has generated some interest in the press recently, after a Wall Street Journal report last month said Men's Wearhouse was pursuing a possible purchase of the company.
Just Marketing International (JMI), a member of Spire Capital’s Fund II portfolio, will be acquired in full by Chime Communications through its subsidiary CSM Sport & Entertainment in a transaction valued at USD76m.
Spire, along with the Indiana Investment Fund, purchased control of JMI in June 2008 with a focus on assisting JMI's management team in leveraging its marketing services presence in the motorsports industry. Jersey’s government has received assurances from the French Finance Ministry that the island will be removed from France’s list of uncooperative jurisdictions in due course.

Private equity firm TA Associates has made two strategic hires in newly created senior roles.
Jeffrey C Hadden has joined TA as chief operating officer and general counsel, and Kevin L. Masse has joined the firm as chief portfolio officer. Both serve in TA’s Boston office. The hires were effective 4 November.
Hadden is responsible for the general oversight of TA’s global non-investment operations. He oversees all legal matters, including compliance, and marketing and human resources functions, including recruiting, training and performance reviews. Hadden joins TA from Goodwin Procter. Alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group has closed its acquisition of Metropolitan Real Estate Equity Management, a real estate multi-manager with more than USD2.6bn in capital commitments.
Equity for the transaction came from Carlyle’s balance sheet. Financial terms were not released.
Metropolitan is now part of Carlyle’s Solutions platform, which also includes AlpInvest, the USD48bn private equity fund of funds business, bringing Solutions AUM to USD50.6bn. Exhilway, a US-based private equity fund which recently launched Link, an alternative trading platform for emerging businesses worldwide, has seen registrations from over 20,000 accredited investors around the world.
Link will connect accredited investors with emerging businesses looking out for small- to mid-sized funding. The transaction size will typically range from a few dollars to multimillion-dollar requirements.
