Venture capital fund manager Mercia Fund Management (MFM) has appointed Talon Golding to head up sales and investor relations.
Golding (pictured) will be responsible for the continued growth of funds under management whilst strengthening relationships with the increasing number of investors and their advisors.
Prior to joining MFM, Golding was sales manager at Scion Investment Group, leading the asset raising for its tax efficient investment offering. Before that he was a broker with Welbeck Wealth Management working directly with high net worth individuals.

Southport Lane, a New York-based private equity firm, has appointed Brandon Young as chief operating officer of its reinsurance holding company Southport Re and senior vice president of Southport Lane.
In this position, Young plays a key role in Southport Re's core business including executing and overseeing acquisitions, developing general business strategy and supporting large transactions. He reports to Glenn Weber, chief executive of Southport Re.
Young brings nearly 20 years of experience across the insurance and securities industries to Southport Re. Prior to joining the firm, Young served as vice president of global corporate development at ACE, where
Edward S Nadel is joining Lowenstein Sandler’s investment management group as senior counsel.
Nadel was previously general counsel and chief compliance officer at Star Mountain Capital and, prior to that, was the director of alternative investments at Credit Suisse.
At Lowenstein Sandler, he will counsel clients on fund formation and structuring, fund transactions, and regulatory and compliance matters.
At Credit Suisse, Nadel was responsible for the structuring and development of private equity funds, hedge funds, mutual funds, joint ventures, funds of funds and employee plans. He played a key role in structuring the spin-offs of GSO Capital Partners and
Morrison & Foerster’s (MoFo) global M&A group has represented SoftBank in a USD1.26bn investment in Miami-based Brightstar, a specialised wireless distributor.
The deal, giving SoftBank a 57 per cent stake, makes Brightstar the exclusive provider of handsets, accessories and services to certain SoftBank affiliates.
The Brightstar deal follows on the heels of SoftBank's announcement earlier this week that it is making a USD1.5bn joint venture investment in mobile game producer Supercell Oy, makers of such popular online games as Clash of Clans and Hay Day. The Abraaj Group has acquired a majority stake in Ghana Home Loans (GHL), a provider of residential mortgages in Ghana.
Established in 2006, GHL, headquartered in Accra, has a primary focus on the Ghanaian residential home buyer, offering mortgages for first time buyers, as well as buy to let, equity release, refinance and home completion products. It has also supplemented traditional mortgage lending with consumer education via housing fairs and seminars.

Engineering company Trumpf has acquired 72 per cent of Chinese machine tool maker Jiangsu Jinfangyuan (JFY).
This investment is the biggest in the company's history and is designed to strengthen Trumpf’s position in the Chinese market. The purchase price was not disclosed.
A team led by the managing partner of CMS, China's Shanghai office, Dr Ulrike Glück, advised Trumpf on all aspects of the transaction from the start, liaising closely with Peter Bokelmann, general counsel at Trumpf. CMS, China has been advising Trumpf in China for some time.

Funds managed/advised by Hutton Collins Partners are to acquire Byron Hamburgers, the UK burger restaurant chain, for a consideration of GBP100m.
Byron was founded by The Gondola Group in 2007 with a proposition based around a simple menu of classic hamburgers. Its restaurants are individually tailored to each particular property, locality and customer audience.
In six years, Byron has grown to 34 sites. Primarily focused on London, Byron has now expanded beyond the capital with strong openings being achieved in a number of key regional cities.
Byron’s management team, led by Tom Byng, will remain with the business.
Albion Ventures has invested GBP9.3m in partnership with Perth-based developer Green Highland Renewables (GHR) to fund the development of a single 2MW hydropower scheme on the Allt A’Chonais, close to Loch Carron in the Scottish Highlands.
The scheme will benefit from the Feed-in-Tariff regime and it is expected to generate its first electricity in Q1 2015. The installation is forecast to generate an average 7GWh of electricity per year, enough to power up to 2,000 households.
This investment is Albion’s 11th investment into renewable energy and second investment into a hydroelectric scheme.

China’s third quarter GDP growth rebounded to 7.8% year-on-year, having decelerated to 7.5% year-on-year in the last quarter. The figure was in line with consensus expectations and reflects the mini-stimulus and fine-tuning measures enacted by Beijing in response to the second quarter slowdown. Equity investors should be cheered that nominal growth recovered more strongly, climbing from 8% year-on-year to 10.4% in the third quarter. This is indicative of growing (but not concerning) inflationary pressure, and is a positive for earnings.
