American Capital has expanded its investment management activities into the energy infrastructure sector with the formation of American Capital Infrastructure.
American Capital Infrastructure will be led by Paul Hanrahan, chief executive.
American Capital Infrastructure plans to manage investments in global energy infrastructure assets, including power generation facilities, power distribution and transmission networks, energy transportation assets and fuel production opportunities.
Joining Hanrahan are Rich Santoroski, managing director, and Rajeev Garside, vice president.

European private equity firm Cinven has completed its acquisition of Amdipharm, the family-owned international niche pharmaceuticals business, for a total consideration of GBP367m.
This deal follows Cinven’s acquisition of Mercury Pharma, an international specialty pharmaceuticals company, in August 2012.
Amdipharm will be merged, over time, with Mercury Pharma. The combined group has an enterprise value in excess of GBP830m, with revenues approaching GBP250m and a portfolio of more than 200 drugs.

Lumi, a provider of nutritional beauty products in China, has raised USD20m (RMB120m) in a series B funding led by private equity firm ClearVue Partners.
Fidelity, JAFCO and Capvent also participated in the round, along with existing shareholder, DCM. William Chen, managing partner of ClearVue, is also joining Lumi’s board of directors.
The new funds will support branding and product and channel development, and will help enhance Lumi’s customer service and strengthen its position as the leader in the nutritional beauty industry.

Ecorse Investments, a company indirectly owned by funds managed by private equity fund Advent International, has closed its tender offer for the sale of EKO Holding Group shares, reaching a total subscription level of 97.98 per cent.
According to the schedule provided in the tender offer document for the sale of EKO Holding shares, the subscription period closed on 29 October 2012.
Through the tender offer, the shareholders subscribed to sell the total number of 47,632,553 shares, which is equal to a 97.98 per cent stake in the company.

The Association of Investment Companies is calling on the FSA to withdraw its proposals to restrict the distribution of some investment companies.
The proposals are set out in its consultation CP12/19 “Restrictions on the retail distribution of unregulated collective investment schemes and close substitutes”.
The proposals would prevent advisers from making recommendations to ordinary retail investors on VCTs and certain non-UK domiciled investment company shares (including companies with private equity, property and other portfolios of alternative assets).
