HgCapital, the leading European sector-focused private equity investor, has promoted Kai Romberg to partner. The move recognises Romberg’s strong performance, delivered since he joined HgCapital in 2004 as an Associate.
Romberg has played an important role in many value-creating investments including SiTel, Addison, Visma, CSG, Achilles (which won the Fast Track Private Equity Deal of the Year Award in 2011), Lumesse, TeamSystem and Teufel.

Morgan Stanley Global Private Equity has formed a strategic partnership with OSF Merchant Banking to pursue investment opportunities in Brazil. Based in São Paulo, OSF is a fund manager that offers international and local qualified investors customized alternative investment advice.

GSO Capital Partners, the credit division of Blackstone (NYSE: BX), has announced the final closing of its second mezzanine fund, GSO Capital Opportunities Fund II, with total commitments of USD4 billion, making it among the world’s largest mezzanine funds and the largest mezzanine fund to be raised following the financial crisis of 2008.
GSO will invest the Fund across a broad range of sectors and geographies, with a particular focus on the US and Europe.

Law firm Paul Hastings LLP represented Monitise plc (LSE: MONI) on the acquisition of Clairmail Inc, a US provider of mobile banking and payments solutions.
Monitise plc is a technology and services company delivering mobile banking, payments and commerce networks worldwide.
The Acquisition values Clairmail at approximately USD173m (GBP109m), based on Monitise’s share price of 35.0 p as of the close of trading on 23 March, 2012.
The deal is conditional upon shareholder and US regulatory approvals. It is expected that the Acquisition will be completed before the end of the financial year 2012.
