Private equity firm Stirling Square Capital Partners has acquired a majority interest in Italy’s Viscolube, a major European player in the used oil recycling sector.
The stake is being acquired from Giorgio Carriero and his family, who will retain a minority interest. Carriero, who had previously acquired a minority stake owned by ENI S.p.A., will continue as President of Viscolube. The acquisition is the first for Stirling Square’s recently appointed Special Opportunities team, which is led by Manilo Marocco. The Irish Funds Industry Association (IFIA) has issued a voluntary corporate governance code for Irish authorised collective investment schemes (CIS) and Irish authorised management companies.
This follows an invitation by the Central Bank for the funds industry to develop and apply its own corporate governance code in place of the statutory code developed for banks and insurance companies. While the IFIA code is voluntary in nature, the Central Bank considers it “essential” that all Irish authorised CIS adopt the code, albeit on a voluntary basis.

The AIM-quoted investment group China Private Equity Investments Holdings Limited has raised USD1 million (approximately GBP641,660) through the issue of 2,500,000 new shares at USD0.40 per share to Max Era Properties Limited.

DNV has acquired 74.3% of KEMA’s shares. The new combined company DNV KEMA will consist of all 1,800 KEMA employees and 500 employees from DNV’s renewable energy and sustainability activities. The new company will be led by Thijs Aarten, the CEO of KEMA, and headquartered in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Aarten will report to a Supervisory Board chaired by DNV CEO Henrik O. Madsen.

With the Addax & Oryx Group (AOG), Swedfund is creating the largest private sector agriculture investment in Sierra Leone, helping meet a major objective of the Government of Sierra Leone and delivering significant development effects.
Swedfund, Sweden’s Development Finance Institution (DFI), has committed EUR10m to Addax Bioenergy Sierra Leone (Addax). The total investment, which achieved financial close on 20 December, is EUR 267m. The investment is made by AOG, a leading player in the energy industry in Africa, Swedfund and six fellow DFIs.
