Silverfleet Capital, the European private equity firm that specialises in buy and build investments, has made a 3x money return and an IRR of 27 per cent from the EUR417m sale of France’s jewellery chain Histoire d’Or, to Bridgepoint Capital. Silverfleet Capital invested in Histoire d’Or in 2006, in a tertiary buy-out, with the objective of continuing its roll-out strategy across France. Since then the company has increased the number of stores it operates from 124 to 208 while Ebitda has grown by 70 per cent from EUR27m to EUR46m. HarbourVest Global Private Equity’s estimated economic net asset value was USD762.1m or USD9.18 per share as at 30 September 2010.  This represents a 3.1 per cent increase from the 31 August 2010 estimated economic NAV per share of USD8.90. The increase in economic NAV per share resulted from positive foreign currency movement (USD0.16 per share) and increases in the values of publicly-held securities (USD0.14 per share), partially offset by ongoing operating expenses (USD0.02 per share).   During the month, HVPE funded USD11.2m of capital calls and received USD17.3m in distributions, resulting in net positive cash flow of USD6.1m.   Also
Jan Amethier has been appointed head of corporate finance at Handelsbanken Capital Markets. Jan Amethier has been appointed head of corporate finance at Handelsbanken Capital Markets. Amethier has spent 12 years at JP Morgan in London where his positions have included head of Nordic investment banking. He was also co-head for the whole of European M&A operations.   In the 1990s, Amethier worked at the Swedish Ministry of Industry and led the work of nine privatisations on behalf of the Swedish government. Most recently he was head of Nordic operations for Doughty Hanson, a private equity firm in London.

HBR Labs, a web-based collaboration services provider, has raised USD2m in funding from private equity investors. Bristol law firm Temple Bright has acted for Bath based Anthem Publishing on its acquisition from IPC Media of Guitar & Bass magazine.  Jonathan Poole led the deal with James Howell giving specialist employment advice.  City firm Herbert Smith acted for IPC.    Anthem’s managing director Jon Bickley says: “We were impressed with Jonathan and James’ commercial input as well as legal advice and really appreciate the time they put in even though working for a capped fee. Century Focused Fund II, a private equity fund sponsored and managed by Century Capital Management, has completed an investment in Torrent Technologies. Torrent plans to use the additional capital to support its growth and to recapitalise early investors in the company. Third Eye Capital, a Toronto-based investor in privately-negotiated secured loans, has named Algis Vaitonis as its new senior vice president and head of operations. INgrooves, a provider of digital distribution, marketing and promotion services to the audio, video and publishing communities, has received growth capital investment from Shamrock Capital Growth Fund II, a private equity fund focused on media, entertainment and communications investing.  Financial terms were not disclosed. This capital injection will allow INgrooves to expand into ancillary media verticals such as eBooks and make acquisitions in the digital music industry.  With the closing of the Shamrock investment, both Shamrock and Universal Music Group will be minority shareholders in the company.
