Global Capital Management’s Global Opportunistic Fund I has exited its investment in Banawi Industrial Group.
Banawi, a diversified industrial group based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was founded in 1957 by Sheikh Ali Al-Banawi as the first commercial printing and paper-based packaging company in the GCC region.
The company is currently active in the packaging and specialty chemicals sectors with four subsidiaries, Banawi Container Group, Ashwa Technologies, Henkel Technologies Egypt and Henkel Technologies Middle East.

Resilience Capital Partners, an Ohio-based private equity firm, has completed the acquisition of Taylor Lumber and its subsidiaries.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1889, Taylor Lumber is one of the world’s largest producers of rift and quartered sawn lumber. The company is headquartered in Ohio and employs over 180 people.
Taylor Lumber’s products consist of a wide variety of lumber species including white oak, red oak, walnut, cherry, hard maple, ash and hickory.

OJK, part of Gresham Private Equity backed James Grant, has acquired Addis, a Stockport based accountancy practice.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
OJK provides accountancy, tax and consultancy services to clients within the music, entertainment and sports sectors. Clients include Bryan Adams, Davina McCall and Sir Bob Geldof.
Addis clients include Muse, Manic Street Preachers, The Script, New Order and Elbow.

Financial services firm Perella Weinberg Partners has named Jeffrey Silverman a partner of the firm, effective immediately.
Silverman will join the senior management team of the firm’s asset management business and will be based in New York.

Growth equity firm General Atlantic has appointed John Arlotta, former chairman and chief executive of Coram and NeighborCare, as a special adviser.
Arlotta will support General Atlantic’s approach to partnering with growth companies in the healthcare sector.
Arlotta joins General Atlantic’s network of healthcare-focused current and former special advisers, which includes Dr. Mark McClellan, former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Brent Saunders, formerly of Schering Plough and now chief executive of Bausch & Lomb; and Tracy Bahl, former chief executive of Uniprise and the current executive chairman of Emdeon.

Global mergers and acquisitions totalled USD858.8bn in the first half of 2010, up 5.1 per cent from the first half 2009, according to a report by mergermarket.

Private equity firm General Atlantic has completed the management-led transaction re-establishing First Republic Bank, the San Francisco-based private bank and wealth management firm, as an independent financial institution.
General Atlantic co-led a group of private investors in supporting First Republic Bank’s founding leadership team in the transaction.

Cleary Gottlieb has represented TPG Capital on the acquisition of British young adult fashion retailer Republic from private equity company Change Capital Partners and Republic’s management team.
Republic’s management team will continue to run the business and remain significant investors.
The transaction was signed on 19 June 2010 and closed on 21 June 2010.
Republic currently operates 105 stores throughout the UK, offering its customers brands such as G-Star, Diesel and Firetrap, as well as up and coming niche brands and its own exclusive range.

Tony Tozzi, Ian George and Marcos Theodosiou have joined as directors while Mike Budge and Jonny Baxandall have been appointed as associate directors.
Tozzi, who will lead the team’s push into technology, media and telecoms in the region, joins from Bank of Ireland. He started his career at Barclays and has 30 years’ experience in banking and has specialised in TMT for the past 12 years.
