Several private equity investors have acknowledged support for the Cloud Communications Alliance, a consortium of eight companies that aims to drive development and adoption of the first nationwide high-definition enterprise voice and data network in the IP cloud. Guernsey-based financial services provider Bachmann Group has announced a partial management buyout, with 40 per cent of shares in the firm, one of the largest independent fiduciary services businesses in the Channel Islands, now owned by its 35-strong senior management team. Founder Peter Bachmann will retain the remaining 60 per cent of the group, which was founded in 1974, includes operations in the UK, Switzerland and New Zealand and employs a total of 120 people. Providing entrepreneurs in developing countries access to financial services is crucial, Princess Máxima of the Netherlands has told the conference Be Social, Make Profit: Financing the Future of Developing Economies. At the conference, held to mark the 40th anniversary of Dutch entrepreneurial development bank FMO, Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Verhagen emphasised that economic growth is essential in developing countries to ensure equal distribution of wealth. “Investing in infrastructure is important for economic growth in developing countries,” Verhagen said. Omers Private Equity has agreed to acquire United States Infrastructure from funds affiliated with Kohlberg. United States Infrastructure is a provider of outsourced sub-surface utility locating services in the US. The company provides locating services across 20 states on behalf of over 400 telecom, electric, gas, cable and water utilities, including all major national and regional utilities throughout the Midwest, Southeast, Southwest and Northwest. The Emerging Markets Private Equity Association has advised members of the European Parliament to vote with caution when adopting proposals on third country arrangements of the draft Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive on 27 April.  The association says the outcome of this vote will seriously affect economic development in emerging economies.  EMPEA also requests that the directive be amended to allow emerging market fund managers to market their funds in the EU under a regime similar to the private placement one now in place. Private equity firm Riverside has opened an office in Melbourne, Australia as part of Riverside Asia Fund. The new office will focus principally on finding and evaluating attractive middle market opportunities in Australia, strengthening Riverside’s presence in the Asia Pacific region. The Melbourne office complements RAF offices in Hong Kong, China; Tokyo, Japan; and Seoul, South Korea. EnCap Investments, a Texas-based oil and gas private equity firm, and its partner Flatrock Energy Advisors have closed EnCap Energy Infrastructure Fund with total capital commitments of USD791.6m.
