The winners of the the Private Equity Wire US Awards, which recognise excellence among private equity fund managers and service providers in the US across a wide range of categories, have been announced.
Unigestion, an independent, specialist asset manager, has held the first close of the Unigestion Direct III (UD III) Fund, its third direct private equity fund at €200 million.
The fund targets a portfolio of global, innovative mid-market companies whose growth is underpinned by long-term trends, providing investors with exposure to exciting hard-to-access companies in themes uncorrelated to GDP, such as healthcare, service efficiency, future of work and sustainable cities. It has just closed its first investment in an American substance use treatment business and will be closing its second in a European pharmaceutical company in the coming weeks.

Ridgemont Equity Partners (Ridgemont), a private investment firm specialising in buyout and growth investments in industry-leading middle market companies, has closed Ridgemont Equity Partners IV (REP IV) at its hard cap with $2.35 billion in capital commitments.
The fund significantly exceeded its initial target of $2.0 billion and brings the firm’s total assets under management to over $8.5 billion.

Sienna Private Credit (formerly ACOFI Gestion) has reached €85 million in commitments for its F2E fund with backing from MAIF and the European Investment Fund. The F2E fund has a target of €250 million and will offer tailor-made financing solutions to support SMEs and industrial players in the Energy Transition.
The fund is classified as an impact fund under article 9 of the European SFDR (Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation), and also has a Greenfin label which ensures that investments effectively contribute to the financing of the energy and ecological transitions.

Martin Longchamps has been appointed as the new head of private equity at Canadian pension fund Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec. Longchamps joins from the Public Sector Pension Investment Board where he was managing director of private equity.
Longchamps, who will be based in Caisse’s head office in Montreal, succeeds New York-based Martin Laguerre, who had been in the role for less than two years.
Caisse de Depot’s private equity portfolio, which was worth CAD82.5 billion ($60.1 billion), or nearly 20% of CDPQ’s assets under management, at the end of last year, posted a 39.2% return in 2021
Mayfair Equity Partners (Mayfair), a dedicated technology and consumer investor, has sold Pixomondo (PXO), an Oscar and Emmy award-winning virtual production, visualisation and VFX company, to Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Group Corporation.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
PXO, which is known for its work on premium content including Sony Pictures Television’s The Boys, as well as Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender, maintains three LED sound stages and seven offices in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada.

Balderton Capital has appointed Danny Bloom as Head of Legal, and Andrew Wigfall as Executive In Residence (EIR) as part of its commitment to further building out its EIR programme and portfolio support team.
The appointments follow other recent senior hires including Rachel Bremer (Chief Marketing & Communications Officer) and Elodie Broad (Head of Impact).
In his new role, Bloom will lead Balderton’s legal team, advising on the firm’s investments and exits, and working closely with the portfolio on legal matters throughout their journey from term sheet through to exit.
