Danish vaccine maker Bavarian Nordic has confirmed it is in discussions with private equity firms Nordic Capital and Permira regarding a potential takeover offer, according to a report by Reuters.
The company said there is no certainty an offer will be made, or on the timing or terms of any potential transaction.
Bavarian Nordic specialises in vaccines for mpox, smallpox, and other infectious diseases, and is a key supplier to government health programmes, including in the US.
The news sent Bavarian Nordic’s share price up 24% on Thursday, giving the business a market capitalisation of approximately $3bn. No financial terms of the potential offer have been disclosed.
