Ogier adds partner to Luxembourg team

Luxembourg-based funds expert James Bermingham has been promoted to partner at Ogier.

Bermingham, who joined Ogier as Counsel in 2017, specialises in the structuring and formation of alternative investment funds.

As an expert in the commercial, legal, regulatory and tax issues affecting institutional investment in a cross-border context, Bermingham’s practice focuses primarily on supporting international clients establishing and operating in Luxembourg. He often works with other Ogier offices on a cross-jurisdictional basis to ensure that clients get the very best advice.

The head of Ogier’s Luxembourg office, Francois Pfister, says: “James is a true lawyers’ lawyer and with his background, an ideal fit with Ogier. He has a sophisticated approach that guides international firms through the specificities of Luxembourg law to what matters, without complexity. We are very excited that he has joined the team.”

Bermingham is an English solicitor and a Luxembourg avocat (registered on List IV) who was a City funds’ lawyer by background before very successfully moving into industry, first in Jersey and latterly in Luxembourg and London.

He brings with him a wealth of knowledge about fund structuring across Europe and has sat on various technical committees for industry associations. He has also held a number of board positions on leading private equity, debt and real estate funds.

Ogier is the only offshore law firm with an office in Luxembourg and is uniquely positioned to support its growing industry. As an independent resource, the firm aims to bring a fresh approach to legal services working alongside international firms to facilitate market growth.
