O’Melveny launches MediaTech Group

O’Melveny has launched a new group focused on serving the needs of technology clients as they expand their operations in Southern California.

“O’Melveny MediaTech” will guide established and emerging companies and investors as they grow and engage in content development and distribution. The group will be led by T Hale Boggs, a legal and business advisor to digital media companies.

“Something transformative is happening,” says Boggs, who advises clients from the venture capital and startup stages through M&A, joint ventures, and public offerings. “In Southern California, we are witnessing unprecedented growth as media and technology converge. Major technology companies, mostly from Silicon Valley, are expanding into LA, building out huge production facilities, hiring thousands of people, and spending billions of dollars. At the same time, hundreds of local tech companies have emerged in recent years, many launched out of LA-based accelerators, with backing from a rapidly growing local VC community. A number of these companies have achieved multi-billion dollar valuations in a few, short years.”

“Deals with media and content companies are a whole different animal for Silicon Valley,” says Boggs. “O’Melveny MediaTech will provide a link between the tech companies and the studios, production companies, agencies, and other media entities with whom O’Melveny has worked since Hollywood’s early days.”

O’Melveny MediaTech comprises more than 20 lawyers based in the country’s major creative hubs: Century City, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and New York.

The new group will advise clients throughout their lifecycles, from venture capital financings to acquisitions to liquidity transactions through sale or IPO. The group will counsel entrepreneurs, early-stage companies, content creators, delivery platforms, angel investors, and venture capital funds on strategies that support, monetise, grow, and protect their legal and business interests.
“O’Melveny helped shape both Silicon Valley and the LA entertainment industry as we know it, and now, with the launch of O’Melveny MediaTech, the firm is uniquely positioned to be a next-generation facilitator of this growing partnership,” Boggs says.
