SL Capital Partners strengthens US private equity team

SL Capital Partners, successor to Standard Life Investments Private Equity, has appointed Jamie Ebersole as senior investment director for private equity in North America.

SL Capital Partners, successor to Standard Life Investments Private Equity, has appointed Jamie Ebersole as senior investment director for private equity in North America. He previously spent eight years with Allianz, most recently as a managing director of Allianz Private Equity Partners and head of its New York office.

Based in SL Capital Partners’ Boston office, Ebersole will work with Eric Albertson, who joined the firm in April from Bank of America Capital Advisors to manage the USD625m in US private equity interests raised from clients.

SL Capital Partners provides access to European and US funds of funds private equity service for clients from 24 countries and the more than USD9bn it has makes it one of the world’s largest fund of private equity funds managers.

‘The US private equity market is very dynamic and will continue to present opportunities for businesses well placed to capitalise upon them,’ says chief executive David Currie. ‘While the current environment is rather unsettled, periods following economic slowdown have historically presented great opportunities.

‘I am confident that the strength of the SL Capital Partners franchise, along with the talent we have assembled in the US team, will position us to seize upon this growth as the alternative asset markets continue to institutionalise.

‘We are committed to further strengthening our US private equity team and Jamie’s extensive knowledge of the industry in North America and Latin America will make him a valuable addition to the team.

‘At Allianz Jamie was responsible for all aspects of a USD500 million annual private equity programme and sat on the global private equity investment committee. Together with Eric Albertson, he will develop our US private equity strategy and play a key role in growing and promoting our global private equity business.’

Says Ebersole: ‘SL Capital Partners is one of the pre-eminent private equity fund of funds players in Europe, and this is a tremendous opportunity to leverage the SL Capital platform to build a strong US presence. I look forward to working with David Currie and his team in Edinburgh and with Eric Albertson in the US office to build a world-class business.’

SL Capital Partners, which has 16 investment professionals, was launched on October 1 last year with the transfer of the Standard Life Investments Private Equity business and the general partner companies that run its funds. Standard Life Investments retains a 60 per cent interest in the firm, with the remainder held by senior members of the management team.

Standard Life Investments was launched in 1998 as the investment management subsidiary of insurer Standard Life. It operates in the UK, Canada, Ireland, Hong Kong and the US, has representative offices in Germany, France, South Korea and Beijing, and operates in India through a joint venture, HDFC AMC.
