Straus to launch new fund on 1 April

Straus Asset Management is to launch its latest fund, Straus Healthcare Partners LP, on 1 April.

Straus Asset Management is to launch its latest fund, Straus Healthcare Partners LP, on 1 April. The new fund, which will be managed by Ravinder (Ruby) Holder, will focus on various sectors of the healthcare industry, including biotechnology, healthcare services, medical technologies and pharmaceutical/specialty pharmaceuticals.

Holder, who began her career in academic medicine, received a Biomedical Engineering degree and an MBA from Duke University in 1993. In 1988, she joined the Department of Medical Informatics at Duke University Medical Center. In 1992, Ms. Holder joined the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center as an analyst in the Department of Surgery, before making a move into hospital administration in 1995 by joining the New York University Medical Center as an Associate Director in the department of Finance.

In 1996, Holder joined The Frankel Group, a consulting firm focused on the pharmaceutical industry, as a Senior Consultant, moving on to work on Wall Street in 1998, when she joined ING Barings Furman Selz as an Associate Analyst in the Research department. Later in 1998, Holder was promoted to a Senior Analyst, and after the acquisition by ABN AMRO to a Director. Holder joined Straus Asset Management LLC in 2002 as a healthcare portfolio manager.

Straus Asset Management LLC, a New York-based investment firm founded by Melville (Mickey) Straus in 1998, has managed its flagship small-cap growth fund, Straus Partners LP, since that time.

Straus received his undergraduate degree in 1960 from Dartmouth College and his MBA from Harvard in 1967, where he was a Baker Scholar. He entered the investment business as a security analyst in 1967 at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette. In 1969, he joined Standard & Poor’s/InterCapital as Vice President and Director of Research. In 1972, he was elected to its Board of Directors and Executive Committee before joining Weiss, Peck & Greer, LLC in 1973, where he was a member of the Executive Committee for 20 years.

Straus is Chairman Emeritus of the board of governing trustees of American Ballet Theatre, Honorary Chairman of the Contemporary Arts Council of the Museum of Modern Art, trustee of Independent Curators, Inc, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Guild Hall in East Hampton, and member of the Dartmouth College President’s Leadership Council.
