Sweden’s EQT secures $11.4bn for Asia-focused buyout fund

Swedish private equity powerhouse EQT has secured $11.4bn in commitments for its latest Asia-focused buyout vehicle, with fundraising expected to close by year-end and a hard cap set at $14.5bn in 2026, according to a report by Reuters citing a firm announcement on Thursday.

The firm officially launched its ninth regional private equity fund, BPEA Private Equity Fund IX, managed by EQT Private Capital Asia, on 1 March 2025. The fund achieved its first close in April, as detailed in EQT’s half-year 2025 report published on Thursday.

Following the first close, PE funds typically begin deploying capital, backed by initial investor commitments. EQT highlighted in its report that fundraising momentum for BPEA IX remains robust despite ongoing global macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties, including trade tensions stemming from US tariffs and policy shifts under the Trump administration.

CEO and Managing Partner Per Franzen noted that Asia Pacific’s structural growth dynamics and relatively under-managed capital pools continue to offer compelling long-term investment opportunities.
