US Venture Partners has announced that Bruce McWilliams, the former chief executive of semiconductor firm Tessera Technologies, has joined the venture capital firm as an executive in residence.
McWilliams (pictured) is chairman of Tessera Technologies and was its chief executive officer from 1999 to 2008. He established and implemented the company’s growth strategy of developing and delivering innovative miniaturization technologies to the mobile phone and semiconductor industries. During his tenure, the company achieved compounded revenue and operating profit growth exceeding 50 per cent annually.
McWilliams has more than 20 years of executive and technical management experience in the semiconductor industry. He has held numerous executive management positions, including senior vice president at Flextronics International, a position he assumed upon Flextronics’ acquisition of nCHIP, a multi-chip module packaging company he co-founded and where he served as its chief executive. McWilliams also founded and was chief executive of S-Vision, a silicon chip-based display company.
He is also a member of the board of directors for Intermolecular, a semiconductor materials company, and NemoTEK, a mobile phone camera manufacturing company. He is a trustee of Carnegie-Mellon University and a member of its advisory boards for Physics and Human & Computer Interaction.
‘Bruce is the uncommon combination of a premier technologist and a model chief executive. And beyond those attributes, he’s a terrific guy. What a great example for the young entrepreneur/executives with whom we are associated. We are thrilled that he is in residence,’ says Irwin Federman, USVP partner.
‘I have had the pleasure of working with USVP in start-ups and learned to appreciate the great value they bring to companies they invest in. Being residence in this firm is a great opportunity for me to gain broad insight relevant to my next venture,’ says McWilliams.
