Willkie appoints debt finance partner in London

Willkie Farr & Gallagher has appointed debt finance partner Ashley Young in London. Young will join Willkie’s Finance Practice Group on 25 November, 2019 and will be the firm’s fourth lateral hire in London this year. He was previously a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Young has approximately 20 years of experience advising clients on complex cross-border debt finance and special situation transactions. His practice focuses on acting for sponsors and borrowers, including private equity funds and their portfolio companies as well as credit funds at all levels of the capital structure on domestic and international acquisitions, leveraged financings, restructurings and special situations.
“Ash is a well-established leader in the market and we are delighted to welcome him to Willkie,” says Willkie Chairman Steven Gartner. “His strong track record in debt finance, his private equity sector credentials and his extensive experience acting for both UK and US clients, represents a perfect fit for our global finance practice and complements our already strong London transactional team.”
Peter Burrell, London Managing Partner, adds: “Willkie continues to attract some of the best talent in London. Ash will deepen our finance capabilities and add to the strength of our well established London transactional team. His experience and insights will add significant value to all our corporate transactional teams including private equity, M&A and restructuring.”
“I am looking forward to joining Willkie’s finance practice and playing a significant part in the firm’s continued growth and success in London,” says Young. “Willkie is advising on some of the most interesting private equity and financing transactions in Europe at present providing me with an exciting platform on which to build and to develop new opportunities.”
Young’s appointment follows the recent London office hires this year of private equity partners Gavin Gordon and David Arnold in May and tax partner Jane Scobie in April.
Willkie’s global finance practice complements the firm’s private equity, M&A, restructuring, capital markets, structured finance, real estate and tax groups to provide clients with comprehensive tools needed to achieve their goals. Our London finance team advise borrowers, direct lenders, lending institutions and other traditional and non-traditional capital providers in a wide variety of transactions including: private equity and acquisition financings, cross-border financings, unitranche, second lien and junior financings.
