Nader Sultan named senior adviser to Carlyle Mena Partners

Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group has named Nader H. Sultan senior adviser to Carlyle’s Middle East North Africa team.

Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group has named Nader H. Sultan senior adviser to Carlyle’s Middle East North Africa team.

Sultan (pictured) will help identify investments, business opportunities and trends particularly in the energy sector in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Carlyle Mena Partners, a USD500m fund, invests primarily in healthy, growing companies. The fund has offices in Cairo, Dubai and Istanbul, with a team of 12 investment professionals.

David M. Rubenstein, Carlyle co-founder and managing director, says: ‘We are proud to have Nader join us. He brings a wealth of experience, insight and relationships in the energy sector, both regionally and on an international scale.’

Sultan says: ‘I look forward to working with Carlyle’s talented team of MENA investment professionals to help build their success as investors and operators in the energy sector.’

Sultan worked for 33 years in the Kuwait oil industry, and was the deputy chairman and chief executive officer of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. Previously, he also served as deputy chairman and managing director of planning in KPC.

From 1993 until 2005, Sultan was a non-executive board member of Santa Fe International, which subsequently merged into Global Santa Fe, a publicly-listed drilling company in the US.

Mr. Sultan is currently a senior partner in F+N Consultancy, a firm specialising in high-level strategic advice related to the energy industry. He is also the director of the Oxford Energy Seminar at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford University, the non-executive chairman of Ikarus Petroleum Holdings, and the deputy chairman of Stehwaz Holdings. He also currently serves on the advisory board of Riverstone Holdings, the board of AlMadar Finance and Investment, the supervisory board of the Al-Markaz Energy Fund, and on the international advisory board of Dana Gas.
