Indian financial services group Motilal Oswal has appointed former Temasek India co-head Padmanabh Sinha to lead its alternative investment business as the firm expands across private equity, real estate and private credit, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Sinha joins Motilal Oswal Alternates, which manages approximately $3.5bn in assets, following senior investment roles at Temasek, India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Tata Opportunities Fund. He most recently served as executive director and chief investment officer at NIIF until April 2025, before leaving to establish an independent private equity fund.
The appointment follows a reported period of fundraising and diversification for Motilal Oswal Alternates. In February, the firm closed its largest private equity fund at $938m, attracting international investors for the first time. It also entered the private credit market in 2025, targeting more than $300m in commitments.
The leadership change comes amid continued growth in India’s alternative investment industry, supported by increasing allocations from domestic institutions and wealthy individuals. Other managers, including Kotak Alternate Asset Managers and 360 ONE, have also strengthened their senior leadership teams as competition for private markets capital intensifies.
