Carey Olsen adds aviation finance partner in Cayman Islands

Offshore law firm Carey Olsen has appointed corporate and finance lawyer Richard Munden as a partner in its Cayman Islands office.

Munden advises on a wide range of corporate and finance transactions with particular expertise in aviation finance and other asset finance matters including asset-backed securitisations. He also specialises in financing for hedge funds and private equity funds, debt capital market transactions, equity issues and joint venture and shareholder arrangements across a wide range of industries.

He joins Carey Olsen after 10 years at another offshore law firm in the Cayman Islands where he was responsible for leading and growing the transport finance practice in North America and Europe. Prior to moving to the Cayman Islands, he worked in the asset finance team at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London before working in-house at Vueling Airlines in Barcelona, Spain as general counsel and then head of fleet.

Carey Olsen Cayman Islands partner Nick Bullmore says: “We are delighted to have Richard join us. He is extremely well-regarded in the Cayman legal market as a technically strong and commercially-minded lawyer. He has an enviable reputation in the aviation finance sector and is a leading expert in the local market.”

Munden says: “I am excited to be joining Carey Olsen in the Cayman Islands and I look forward to working with the global team and contributing to the firm’s continued growth and success.”

Over the last five years, Munden has worked on 16 transactions that have been recognised in AirFinance Journal’s Deals of the Year awards. Over the last decade he has worked closely with the Cayman Islands Government and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands on revisions to civil aviation legislation for a number of matters including the implementation of the Cape Town Convention in the Cayman Islands.
