Carlyle recruits Apollo executive to expand direct lending origination

Carlyle has appointed Alexander Simoes as a managing director within its direct lending origination team, continuing its expansion of its private credit business, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Simoes joins from Apollo Global Management, where he was responsible for sourcing credit and structured equity investment opportunities involving private equity-backed companies. He joined Apollo in 2025, having previously held positions at Oaktree Capital Management and Goldman Sachs.

The appointment follows several senior hires as Carlyle strengthens its direct lending platform. The firm previously recruited Goldman Sachs executive Alex Chi to lead the business, alongside Michael Meagher and JP Seminario to support its origination capabilities.

The latest hire reflects Carlyle’s continued investment in private credit as alternative asset managers expand their direct lending operations and compete for financing opportunities among private equity-backed borrowers.
