Claiborne Deming named senior adviser to TPH Partners

TPH Partners has appointed Claiborne P. Deming as a senior adviser to the energy middle-market private equity fund.

Deming (pictured) joins Frank Kalman, Dick Lewis, Steve Shapiro and Joel V. Staff as a senior adviser. The effort, which is chaired by Joe B. Foster, focuses on equity investments in the upstream, oilfield service and midstream space.

“We are delighted that Claiborne is working with us on TPH Partners,” says Foster. “His experience in guiding independents as well as his industry knowledge as chairman of the National Petroleum Council makes him a great addition as we continue to acquire and build companies in the energy space. Claiborne and the other senior advisers are a significant resource for our portfolio companies and our overall efforts.”

The senior advisers for the Houston-based energy private equity fund serve in an advisory capacity, working with the fund’s investment team to source and vet investment opportunities as well as provide guidance on operational efforts.

Deming served as president and chief executive officer of Murphy Oil from 1994 until the end of 2008, a firm he first joined in 1979. He is a member of the board of directors of Murphy Oil and chairman of the executive committee, and is the current chairman of the National Petroleum Council.

He is a member of the Vanderbilt University board of trust and is a member of the Jefferson Scholars selection committee of the University of Virginia. He is also a director of the American Petroleum Institute and a member of the American Bar Association, Arkansas Bar Association and the Louisiana Bar Association.
