Private equity firm The Riverside Company has acquired Global Orthopaedic Technologies, an Australian manufacturer and distributor of orthopaedic implants. With two research, design and manufacturing facilities in Bella Vista and Seven Hills in New South Wales, Global supplies implants and instrumentation for hip, knee, shoulder and spine surgeries, along with related orthobiologics.   Riverside has partnered on the transaction with Andrew Fox-Smith and Duncan Lilley. MyOptique Group, a European online optical retailer, has secured a GBP16 million (EUR20m) additional investment, bringing the total raised in its current Series C funding round to GBP35 million (EUR43m). Private equity firm NorthEdge Capital has invested GBP11.1 million in the management buyout of Utiligroup, a Lancashire-based data management and software services provider. The management software and services company, based in Chorley, provides data management software and services to the energy sector.    Utiligroup helped a total of 15 new companies to enter the energy market during the last four years, and supplies software and services to 29 of the active UK energy suppliers.   Matthew Hirst, Utiligroup chief executive, and Andrew Green, chief operating officer, led the MBO of the business. KKR Asset Management (KAM), a sub-investment grade manager wholly-owned by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, has agreed to provide EUR220m long term financing to Selecta. The investment is part of a comprehensive re-financing of the company’s capital structure, providing flexibility for investments and implementation of its ongoing growth strategy.   Selecta is Europe’s largest independent pan-European vending machine operator, with operations in 21 countries, including France, Switzerland, Sweden, UK and Germany. Tissue diagnostics specialist Definiens has closed a EUR15 million funding round led by venture capital firm Wellington Partners. Gilde Healthcare co-led the financing round and was joined by other existing investors Cipio Partners and TVM Capital in the financing.   In conjunction with the financing, Dr Rainer Strohmenger, general partner and managing director for Wellington, will join Definiens' board of directors.   The new funds will allow Definiens to grow its business in digital pathology image analysis and expand into digital tissue diagnostics. Maven Capital Partners has completed a multi-million pound investment backing the management team of Yorkshire based Just Trays (JT) to acquire the business from Gresham Private Equity.  JT was established in 1988 and has since grown to become a manufacturer of shower trays and related accessories, with all product design, development and production undertaken at its main facility in Leeds, West Yorkshire.   The business sells its range of products direct to trade partners in the construction and housing market and now accounts for around 28 per cent of the UK market.   The current management team previously led a

JHL Biotech has closed a Series B financing round of USD35 million, led by new investors Milestone Capital and a consortium of Taiwan venture capitalists and individuals. The consortium includes President International Development Corp, Fubon Financial Holdings, Taishin Financial Holdings, TaiAn Technologies, Hotung Group, Dr Allen Chao (founder of Watson Pharmaceuticals), and existing Series A shareholders China Development Industrial Bank, Biomark Capital, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.    JHL will deploy the new funds toward developing its proprietary biosimilar monoclonal antibody pipeline and accelerating its filing of investigational new drug applications, whilst supporting the ongoing facility expansion in Taiwan

A group led by FINESP Holdings II, an affiliate of private equity firm Warburg Pincus, is to acquire a 50 per cent stake in Santander’s current custody operations in Spain, Mexico and Brazil.  The remaining 50 per cent will be owned by Santander.   The investor group, which is being advised on the deal by law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, also includes Temasek, a Singapore based investment company.   The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2014.    Santander is a leading custody provider in Spain, Brazil and Mexico, with EUR738 billion in assets
The Abraaj Group has submitted a mandatory tender offer to acquire, through one of its funds, up to 100 per cent of the shares of Cairo Medical Center‫ SAE, which is listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX).
