GE Energy Financial Services has made its first equity investment in Ireland’s wind power market by acquiring two wind farm construction projects that will be powered by the GE’s flagship 2.85MW wind turbines. With a combined capacity of 51 megawatts, the wind farms, acquired from Element Power and now under construction, will help Ireland meet its renewable energy generation targets, produce power for thousands of homes, and reduce electricity costs for Irish consumers.   Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.   Element Power is managing construction of the projects and will provide operational management services following completion of
A fund managed by Andean private equity investment manager Ashmore Colombia has agreed the sale of 100 per cent of Lazus SAS, formerly Promitel Colombia SAS, to Columbus International. Lazus started operations in 2001 and today operates metropolitan fibre optic networks in 10 cities in Colombia. Lazus also owns and operates telecommunication systems in Panama City, Panama and San Jose, Costa Rica with growing operations in Peru.   Lazus’ fibre-based network spans approximately 3,500 kilometres across 12 cities represented by a cumulative population base of nearly 23 million people.   Funds advised by Ashmore purchased Lazus in January 2013 from
Sports nutrition brand Grenade has secured investment from Grovepoint Capital in a deal led by international investment bank Altium. This is Altium’s latest transaction in the sports nutrition market following the sale of sports supplements business CNP Professional to First Milk in 2012 and the sale of online retailer Myprotein.com to The Hut Group, the previous year.    Coventry-based Grenade was founded in 2009 and develops and markets a range of high quality, own brand sports nutrition products to customers both in the UK and internationally.     The business continues to develop its product range and reach into global

Nottinghamshire-based door manufacturer Door-Stop International has been acquired by Canadian trade buyer Masonite International for GBP30m, in a deal advised by Clearwater Corporate Finance. Established in 2008, Door-Stop is a UK manufacturer and distributor of high quality “ready-to-fit” composite exterior residential doorsets with an expanding nationwide customer base of trade fabricators, installers and specialist retailers.   The business employs 200 staff and recorded revenue of GBP25m in 2013.   Door-Stop will remain trading as normal and all staff will continue in their roles at its facility in Huthwaite, North Nottinghamshire.   Masonite International is a designer and manufacturer of interior

Boost Communications has raised an additional GBP1m in funding from Norwegian state-owned venture capital fund Investinor and the private venture capital fund Norsk Innvasjonskapital (NIK), following the previous GBP3.7m invested between 2012 and 2013. A leading player in the mobile web and marketing space, Boost Communications was established in Norway in 2000 and produces software that makes it easier to succeed in mobile advertising and marketing.   Boost assists large international agencies and brands in producing mobile campaigns, media buying and reporting, which has resulted in strong, organic growth and international expansion across Europe and the Middle East, opening up offices in London and Krakow in 2013.

European private equity firm Cinven has acquired a majority investment in Medpace for a total consideration of USD915m from CCMP Capital Advisors. Medpace is a global contract research organisation (CRO) business providing management services to the R&D departments of pharma, biotech and medical device clients to help plan and oversee their clinical trials.   The group focuses on small to mid-size companies and has significant expertise in therapeutic areas such as metabolic, cardiovascular, oncology, anti-viral/anti-infective, central nervous system and medical devices.   Cinven’s healthcare team has been focused for some time on the CRO industry as an attractive market in
Private equity fund manager Calculus Capital has invested GBP2m – via its EIS Fund – into a digital administration services provider of low-cost solutions for the pensions, savings and investment industries. Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy has represented Swiss private equity firm Partners Group in making a majority investment in Mexico’s leading gas infrastructure firm, valued at approximately USD750m.
 
 Partners Group is acquiring a majority stake in Fermaca, which owns and operates gas pipelines and related energy assets in Mexico.    Fermaca pipelines have capacity to ship one-fifth of Mexico’s natural gas needs, including supplies originating in the US.    Spurred by Mexico’s recent initiatives easing restrictions on foreign investment in its natural resources, Partners Group says it expects Fermaca to expand its gas transmission activities.
