OR Productivity (ORP) has closed the first GBP1m of a GBP2.5m round of funding for the roll-out of its FreeHand surgeon-controlled camera holder.   The GBP1m was raised mainly from existing shareholders, including GBP350,000 from the AngelCoFund, following its original GBP500,000 investment in 2012.   ORP is in discussion with other individuals and funds with a view to closing, over the next few months, the remaining GBP1.5m it is looking for to complete its commercial roll-out. Wharton Equity Partners has taken title to one of the largest remaining undeveloped parcels of land in the Miami CBD, a full city block comprised of approximately 2.2 acres.     The property was acquired through a deed in lieu of foreclosure on a note that Wharton Equity purchased from IberiaBank earlier in 2013.  The note was acquired with an institutional partner in an all cash transaction that closed in under 30 days from contract signing.    The partnership has begun evaluating options for the property including development, joint venture and/or sale.   Known as the "Burdines Site," the property
Investcorp has acquired Paper Source, a multi-channel retailer offering a selection of uniquely designed and curated gifts, stationery and crafting supplies.   Investcorp purchased Paper Source from Brentwood Associates, a Los-Angeles-based private equity firm. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.   Catering to customers seeking innovation and original designs, Paper Source sells a unique selection of fine and artisanal papers, invitations and announcements, personalised and distinctive gifts, gift wrap, greeting cards, custom stamps, and a custom collection of envelope and cards through its company-owned retail stores. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Paper Source operates 73 stores across 23 states.
Brazos Private Equity Partners’ portfolio company Healthcare Solutions has acquired Modern Medical, a pharmacy management and specialty health services company serving the workers’ compensation market.   The investment is Healthcare Solutions’ third add-on acquisition. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.   Healthcare Solutions is the parent company of Cypress Care, Procura Management and ScripNet. Vodafone has obtained unconditional merger control clearance from the European Commission for the voluntary public takeover offer for Kabel Deutschland.   With merger approval from the European Commission, all conditions to the offer have been met and Vodafone expects to close the transaction on 14 October 2013.   Kabel Deutschland shareholders who have not yet accepted the offer can tender their shares until midnight (CET) on 30 September 2013.   Vodafone’s offer values Kabel Deutschland at EUR87 per share.
International law firm Edwards Wildman has advised Bessemer Venture Partners as lead investor on a USD35m series D financing for UK technology firm NewVoiceMedia.   London based partner Shawn Atkinson led the cross-border team with assistance in the London office from Jill Hanson, Costa Smith and Joel Marris. Gousto, the new recipe box delivery business that recently appeared on Dragon’s Den, has raised further funds from investors.   A group of food industry veterans has invested GBP130,000 and the Angel CoFund has invested a further GBP120,000.
