Nordic Capital Fund VII (Nordic Capital) has acquired Sunrise Medical, a specialist in premium mobility products, from Equistone Partners Europe (Equistone).
Sunrise Medical develops, designs, manufactures and distributes manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, scooters, as well as seating and positioning products. The Company’s products are sold in over 130 countries. Sunrise Medical’s headquarters are based in Malsch, Germany and the company has 2,000 employees worldwide.

eQ Asset Management has held the final close at USD80 million for its North America-focused private equity fund, eQ PE VII US. The fund was raised in only five months and closed above its target.
eQ PE VII US invests in funds investing in unlisted small and medium-sized companies operating in USA and Canada. The portfolio will comprise approximately ten portfolio funds investing across different industries, geographies and stage. eQ will manage the fund and will be advised by Chicago-based RCP Advisors, who will be responsible for fund selection.

MC-Seamax Management has held the successful close of its first private-equity fund, MC-Seamax Shipping Opportunities Fund, with commitments of USD300 million from institutional investors in North America, Asia and Europe.

Over the last 12 months, the South African hedge fund industry has gone from strength to strength and there is growth in almost all areas. Preqin’s Hedge Fund Analyst online service shows that since June 2014, the number of South Africa-based funds has increased from 104 to 124, while the total assets managed by South Africa-based hedge funds has increased from just over ZAR41bn to around ZAR66bn. Private equity firm Permira is to simultaneously acquire Medora Snacks (Medora) and Ideal Snacks Holding Corporation (Ideal). Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
