LBO France, through its Small Caps Opportunities II fund, has acquired a majority stake in the French company Baobag, alongside BNP Paribas Développement, AfricInvest and the management team – the latter led by Fabrice Saffré, to increase the company’s position in its markets. Baobag originated from the merger of Sacherie du Midi and Framapack in 2007. The company is a pure distributor of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC), commonly known as big bags. The company operates throughout the value chain, including design, sourcing, transportation and storage. Jscrambler, a technology company specialising in cybersecurity products for web and mobile applications, has raised USD15 million in Series A financing.  The round was led by Ace Capital Partners, with the participation of existing investors including Portugal Ventures. With previous investor Sonae IM and now Ace Capital Partners, Jscrambler is supported by two of the largest cybersecurity-focused growth investors in Europe.   The funding will be used to augment marketing and sales resources in the US and European markets, as well as strengthen and accelerate the product roadmap to meet current customers’ expanding requirements.   In tandem, Jscrambler also announced
Tech-focused investment bank ICON Corporate Finance has acted as the exclusive financial adviser to Cloud Direct, a UK-based Microsoft Azure Expert MSP, on its strategic investment from global IT company Crayon Group.  The deal was announced on the Oslo Stock Exchange.   Cloud Direct’s world-class Cloud Managed Services, combined with Crayon’s expertise in licensing and cost optimisation, will enhance the offering and capacity that both partners provide to their customers. The investment supports Cloud Direct’s ambitious growth and establishes a commercial partnership with Crayon. HarbourVest Partners, a global private markets asset manager, has held the final close of the HarbourVest Direct Lending Fund (HDL) at over USD892 million in limited partner commitments, including the General Partner commitment.  The Fund was oversubscribed and closed above the target size of USD600 million. This close follows the firm’s final close of Credit Opportunities Fund II, HarbourVest’s junior credit offering, earlier this year. “We are pleased to mark the final close of our inaugural, dedicated direct lending fund, bringing our total capital under management for credit investments to over USD3.3 billion,” says John Toomey, Managing Director, HarbourVest Partners.
The UK is the key European market for venture capital (VC) investments, as the UK-based startups raised the highest VC funding amount during January-August 2021.  A total of 1,256 VC funding deals were announced in the UK during January-August 2021, while the disclosed funding value of these deals stood at USD19.6 billion, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company. Ara Partners (Ara), a private equity firm specialising in industrial decarbonisation investments, has closed Ara Fund II (Fund II) with approximately USD1.1 billion in capital commitments.   The Fund was significantly oversubscribed, exceeding its USD650 million initial target and increasing its hard cap.  The Fund received commitments from a diverse set of returning and new institutional investors in North America, Europe and Asia, including public pensions, sovereign wealth funds, endowments and foundations.   Led by Managing Partners Troy Thacker and Charles Cherington, Fund II will continue Ara’s strategy of investing in the ongoing decarbonisation of the industrial economy, the greatest
PRODA, a specialist in rent roll data processing and analysis, has secure an investment from ING Ventures ahead of gearing up for a Series A raise in 2022.  The investment follows the successful signing of ING Bank as a customer earlier this year. Surplus Invest, an existing investor in PRODA, has also taken part in this round of funding. The total amount of shares issued in this round equalled cGBP3.4 million, consisting of new capital and converting existing loan notes.
