KKR is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire OSTTRA, the post-trade services joint venture between CME Group and S&P Global, for approximately $3bn, according to a report by Bloomberg citing unnamed sources.
The transaction, which could be announced as early as this week, would mark a significant move by the US-based private equity firm to deepen its exposure to the financial infrastructure and market services space.
OSTTRA was established in 2021 through the merger of CME Group’s post-trade businesses and IHS Markit’s MarkitSERV. The platform provides critical post-trade processing services to the global derivatives, FX and securities markets. Following the merger of IHS Markit and S&P Global, ownership of the venture has been jointly held by CME Group and S&P.
An earlier report had suggested that fellow private equity firm GTCR was close to acquiring OSTTRA for $3.2bn. That report was later corrected, with Bloomberg citing KKR as the leading suitor in exclusive discussions.
Neither CME Group, S&P Global, nor KKR have reportedly commented on the potential transaction.
