Imbiba, a specialist leisure and hospitality investment group, has closed the Imbiba Growth Fund at its hard cap target of GBP50 million. With an investment of GBP30 million provided by the British Business Bank, the Imbiba Growth Fund will provide growth capital and operational support to young and dynamic UK leisure businesses seeking to scale.   The GBP30m contribution comes from the British Business Bank’s Enterprise Capital Funds (ECF) programme, which combines private and public money to make equity investments in high growth businesses. A growing number of Jersey-registered fund managers are opting to future-proof their strategies and market into Europe through national private placement regimes (NPPRs) under the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD), according to the latest figures from Jersey’s regulator, the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC). As at December 2017, 149 alternative investment fund managers (AIFMs) had been authorised in Jersey to market into Europe through NPPRs, up 17 per cent compared to December 2016, clearly highlighting that the use of private placement continues to work well as a means of marketing funds into the EU.   Over the same period,
Consett-based renewable energy company set for expansion after securing investment from Durham County Council Fund. The Finance Durham fund, managed by Maven Capital Partners (Maven), has completed a GBP650,000 investment in Consett-based biomass energy plant, SDS Inc Limited (SDS).   SDS generates heat, gas and electricity from wood chippings, producing solid wood fuel briquettes, a cheaper alternative to the traditional seasoned hardwood used for wood burning fires and stoves. One year after the final close of its first co-investment vehicle, Essling Capital has secured more than EUR115 million for its second co-investment fund, Essling Co-Invest 2 (ECI 2). ECI 2 distinguishes itself from its competitors: fund life span is significantly reduced to 5 or 6 years, thanks to a shorter investment period (12 months). Property Innovation Labs (Pi Labs), a property tech venture capital firm, has secured a strategic equity investment to accelerate its global growth, led by Värde Partners. The new capital injection will be used to scale the business as part of Pi Labs’ aim to create a globally diversified portfolio. London-based Pi Labs, which separately closed its second fund of USD10 million in June 2017, will continue to bolster its investment capabilities with larger funds going forward. The new USD1.5 billion fund targets disruptive and market-leading companies from seed to late-stage across consumer, enterprise and healthcare sectors.
