In the first half of 2016, French private equity firms invested EUR5.5 billion to support and accelerate company growth projects, according to data released by the Association Française des Investisseurs pour la Croissance (AFIC). This figure is up 47 per cent relative to the first half of 2015 and is above the 2006-2008 annual average.   For the first time in a six-month period, AFIC members surpassed the threshold of 1,000 companies receiving investments (1,040 in H1 2016). Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) portfolio company Nord Hydro-Beliy Porog has broken ground on the construction of small hydropower plants on the river Kem in Karelia, Northwest Russia. The breaking ground ceremony was held in the presence of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen, RDIF executives and its international partners Sinomec, the New Development Bank (NDB) founded by the BRICS countries, and other organisations involved in the project.   The construction of two Beloporozhskaya hydro power plants with a total capacity of 49.8 MW is the NDB’s first project in Russia. TLT has advised the management team at M247, an internet infrastructure and IT company, on its sale to network services provider Metronet (UK). Renewable energy underwriter GCube Insurance Services now provides coverage for over 4GW of Canadian wind assets. This figure is expected to increase in the coming months with the strong construction pipeline for new wind infrastructure in the country.   As of last year, and following the installation of a further 36 new wind energy projects, Canada sits seventh in the world in terms of total installed capacity. Fanisi Capital has launched its second fund, Fanisi Capital Fund II, with a target of between USD75 million and USD100 million. Fanisi Capital Fund II, which is a close-ended 10-year growth fund, is targeting to raise up to USD40 million locally, with the rest coming from international investors.   Fanisi Capital managing partner and CEO Ayisi Makatiani says several leading pension funds have already committed to putting money into the fund. Dragoneer Investment Group is to acquire New Mountain Capital’s 35 per cent stake in AmWINS in a deal which values the company at approximately USD2.6 billion. The Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) will own 30 per cent and more than 440 AmWINS employee shareholders will own the remaining 35 per cent. Antares Capital is serving as administrative agent and joint lead arranger on a USD121.6 million senior secured credit facility to support the acquisition of Del Real Foods by a private equity fund affiliated with Palladium Equity Partners. Private equity firm Doughty Hanson’s Doughty Hanson & Co III and Doughty Hanson & Co V have agreed to sell their stakes in LM Wind Power, a manufacturer of wind blades, to GE for an enterprise value of EUR1.5 billion. The acquisition is valued at 8.3 times 2016 forecast EBITDA.
