NorthEdge and The Belfield Group (‘Belfield’) have completed the sale of Usleep, a specialist mattress manufacturer, to The Vita Group (Vita) a manufacturer of premium foam products, for an undisclosed sum.
Usleep is a subsidiary of upholstery and home furnishings manufacturer Belfield, which secured private equity investment from NorthEdge in 2016. It provides an end-to-end service for its customers, from product design & development through to fulfilment, from two well-invested manufacturing sites in Ashton-under-Lyne and Castle Donnington.

New York-based private equity firm MFG Partners (MFG) has completed the acquisition of Mellott Company (Mellott).
The transaction was completed in partnership with Company management and PNC Mezzanine Capital. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Founded in 1920 and headquartered in Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania, Mellott provides a full spectrum of integrated aggregates processing services and equipment, including equipment and parts distribution, service and repair, engineering and fabrication, as well as contract crushing. Leading mid-market private equity firm LDC has exited its minority investment in cloud technology company Aker Systems to Abry Partners. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Founded in 2017, Aker Systems designs, builds and operates ground-breaking ultra-secure public cloud environments and advanced data infrastructure platforms.
LDC invested in Aker Systems in 2020, supporting investment in research and development to drive organic growth, as well as the extension of Aker’s team of highly experienced experts. The business has since grown by more than 50 per cent.

The Imperial College Innovation Fund (ICIF) has led a GBP1 million seed investment round for UK energy storage startup, Cheesecake Energy Ltd (CEL).
The round, which includes Perivoli Innovations, and prominent business angels, will fund the development of CEL’s’s manufacturing capabilities and its lead eTanker storage system.
ICIF, which invested GBP300,000 in this round, is an early-stage investment fund launched at Imperial in early 2020. It invests in startup companies with a strong connection to Imperial College London, such as those founded by students, members of staff or alumni, or companies which have engaged extensively with Imperial’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
