Well-known Irish figures including former Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Guinness family head Lord Iveagh and U2 band members Adam Clayton and The Edge are among a wide-ranging line-up of advisors and investors in a new ‘Impact Ireland’ fund launched by Dublin-based venture private equity investor VentureWave Capital.
VentureWave this week confirmed the successful first close of its new fund, which aims to invest in and build global ‘technology for good’ companies from Ireland. The fund will take strategic stakes in up to 15 ‘high growth potential and scaling Irish companies’, with investments in each company of between EUR1 million and EUR25
Following the completion of a voluntary tender offer period, Valorous Asia Holdings, an entity owned by KKR investment funds, has accepted all of the 427,041,291 common shares of First Gen Corporation that were tendered by shareholders at the close of the tender offer, representing approximately 11.9 per cent of First Gen’s outstanding common shares.The Offeror intends to acquire all of these tendered common shares at a price of (USD0.45) per common share on 1 July, 2020, the cross date previously set out in the Offeror’s tender documents, representing a total investment value of (USD192.2 million).

CubeLogic, a provider of enterprise risk management solutions for the energy, commodities and financial markets, has closed a significant minority investment deal with Growth Capital Partners (GCP) for an undisclosed amount.
BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) has held a close of the BNP Paribas Euro SME Debt Fund II (‘Fund II’) with total capital commitments of EUR576.5 million. The fundraising for Fund II follows the completion of the investment period for BNP Paribas Euro SME Debt Fund I (‘Fund I’) earlier this year. Commitments have been received from 20 investors based in France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan, half of whom are existing investors in Fund I.

Sandberg Capital acquires a 35 per cent stake in Czech company Revolgy Business Solutions. The management team stays on board and continues to lead the company.
Northumberland-based transport management software provider Mandata has acquired the UK’s largest online haulage and freight exchange, Returnloads.net, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction was funded by LDC, the UK’s leading mid-market private equity investor. Debt facilities were provided by Santander.
Led by CEO Chris Rigg, Mandata designs and develops software that allows road transport operators to manage workflow and data more effectively. The acquisition of Returnloads.net will expand the firm’s customer base and breadth of digital services. It will also help Mandata’s customers win more work and drive further visibility and productivity through their own businesses and supply chains.
Oxford Capital’s portfolio company UltraSoc Technologies Ltd is to be acquired by Siemens. Cambridge-based UltraSoc is a provider of instrumentation and analytics solutions that puts intelligent monitoring, cybersecurity and functional safety capabilities into the core hardware of systems-on-chip (SoC). Siemens will integrate UltraSoc’s technology into the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio as part of Mentor’s Tessent product suite.

GCA Altium, the European arm of global investment bank GCA, has seen significant appetite for cross-border deals since the UK went into lockdown on 23 March, challenging uncertainty surrounding global M&A markets during the Covid-19 pandemic.Globally, the business has signed 41 deals, more than half (21) of which have been led by the European team. Just under 50 per cent of these deals had a cross-border element and 10 of the transactions involved private equity, despite market predictions that this type of activity would be put on hold.

IW Capital has completed a GBP10 million investment round for Transcend Packaging, a specialist in sustainable packaging which is targeting the replacement of single-use plastics by making in demand paper and fibre-based alternatives. Transcend utilises state of the art digital printing and specialty coating technology allowing paper straws, cups, and food containers to fully replace their plastic counterparts. Since its founding, the company has seen significant growth and partnerships with leading consumer brands such as McDonald’s, KFC and Starbucks.
