Bessemer Ventures has launched its tenth fund, BVP X, which at USD1.85 billion is slightly larger than the company’s earlier funds, but it will adopt the same approach that has seen a total of 122 Bessemer-backed companies go public to date.
BVP X will look to invest early in promising technology companies and stick with those organisations and their leaders at every stage of the company’s growth. Each of Bessemer’s 14 partners has the decision-making autonomy to provide entrepreneurs with their first USD1 million (or USD50,000) as well as support late-stage companies with a USD100 million investment.

WH Smith is to acquire InMotion, a North American airport-based retailer of digital travel accessories, for USD198 million (GBP155 million).
Established in 1998, InMotion operates a concession portfolio of 114 stores across 43 airports in the United States, with a presence in nine of the top ten, and 22 of the top 25 busiest US airports.
InMotion sells a range of digital accessories includes premium headphones and earbuds, travel accessories, mobile power, portable speakers and action cameras. In the calendar year to date, the company has delivered like-for-like sales growth of 13 per cent, following like-for-like growth of 12
The International Private Equity and Venture Capital Valuation Guidelines Board (IPEV Board) has published draft amendments to the International Private Equity and Venture Capital Valuation Guidelines for consultation.
The IPEV Valuation Guidelines are reviewed periodically by the IPEV Board to ensure they continue to promote best practice when valuing investments and to incorporate changes to accounting standards. The Valuation Guidelines were last updated in 2015 and this year’s update reflects the continued experience of industry practitioners applying IFRS 13 and ASC Topic 820 (US GAAP), as well as incorporating other valuation guidance such as that reflected in the working draft of
Independent Growth Finance (IGF), an independent asset-based lender, has secured significant new senior lending to facilitate its continued growth. The new funding comes as IGF continues to outperform its ambitious growth plans.
The senior finance facility is provided by RBS, British Business Investments (BBI), HSBC and ABN AMRO Commercial Finance. The funding will further enable IGF to provide working capital finance to growing SMEs. In the year to September 2018 IGF increased lending to UK SMEs by 70 per cent. In September IGF completed seven asset-based lending deals; a record month for the company.
The senior finance facility
Foresight Group has made a GBP2 million investment into Merseyside-based Fieldway Supplies Limited, a provider of fire alarm and electrical installation, maintenance and repair services to a wide range of public-sector bodies and companies across the North West.
Fieldway primarily services Housing Associations but also provides merchant services, compliance services, project management and shop fitting services to the retail and leisure industry.
Established by Brian Murphy in 2006 Fieldway has experienced strong organic growth in recent years and currently employs 35 engineers. Some of Fieldway’s best known customers include Transport for Greater Manchester, Onward Homes, Your Housing Group and
CVC Capital Partners’ Growth Fund (CVC) and GRO Capital (GRO) are to become the new majority shareholders of Omada A/S, a provider of Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) software and services, and will provide further capital to the company to accelerate growth.
CVC Growth Partners and GRO will partner with Omada’s management team to further accelerate Omada’s product innovation, grow its partner network in North America and Europe, enhance sales and marketing efforts, as well as continue expanding its strong position in Europe and building greater depth in the North American market.

Private equity firm Vector Capital has provided a USD100 million second lien term loan to support the Permira Funds’ acquisition of Synamedia from Cisco.
Synamedia (formerly Cisco’s Service Provider Video Software Solutions business), is a leading video software solutions provider serving Cable, Telecom, Over-the-Top and Direct-to-Home operators. The business consists of NDS, which provides smartcards and software solutions for set top boxes, and IVP (Infinite Video Platform), which provides cloud access and video processing offerings.

Gide has advised the Icicle group, a high-end Chinese fashion brand, on its buy-out of the luxury label Carven through its subsidiary in Paris.
As part of the deal, Icicle is acquiring the design house, its remaining four stores in France, and all employees. The eco-friendly fashion company, based in Shanghai, out-bid seven other contenders for the struggling French label, marking its third major investment in France after opening a design centre in 2013 and acquiring real estate last year for its upcoming flagship store in Paris.

Sentinel Capital Partners (Sentinel), a private equity firm that invests in promising companies in the lower mid-market, has acquired Holley Performance Products (Holley), a specialist in branded performance products for automotive enthusiasts.
Sentinel acquired Holley from Lincolnshire Management, Inc. and will combine Holley with Driven Performance Brands (Driven), a platform acquired by Sentinel in 2015. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Holley markets and manufactures a wide range of branded high-performance products including fuel injection systems, engine tuning and ignition solutions, carburettors, and exhaust systems. Holley’s portfolio includes leading brands such as Holley, Sniper EFI, MSD, Accel,
