Martin Currie’s Sheasby appointed to PRI ESG Engagements advisory committee

David Sheasby, head of governance and sustainability at Martin Currie, has been appointed to the PRI (Principles for Responsible Investment) ESG Engagements advisory committee.

Martin Currie’s experience in engagement with investee companies, as well as the considerable work Sheasby has done in this area, prompted the PRI’s appointment.

Sheasby says: “This is a great endorsement and reflection of the significant importance that Martin Currie has placed on active ownership and engagement over the years. We have worked increasingly closely with the PRI for some time and I am delighted to be joining its ESG Engagements advisory committee.

“The committee’s objectives are to provide direction and leadership on the PRI’s collaborative engagements agenda, and to set priorities for present and future engagement initiatives.

“As stewards of our clients’ capital, we believe in integrating governance and sustainability analysis into our investment process. Active ownership and engagement are a core part of this, and we have been a signatory to the PRI since 2009. In that time, Martin Currie has participated in, and led, many collaborative engagements. In 2016 alone, we participated in 17 collaborative engagement initiatives and 187 private collaborations. Martin Currie’s engagements this year include areas such as cybersecurity, water risk and antibiotic use in the food sector.”
