Kirkland & Ellis has advised Starwood Capital Group on the acquisition of a 29.42 per cent stake in London-listed RDI Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) from South African investor Redefine. The shares will be bought from Redefine for an aggregate sale consideration of GBP106.3 million, representing GBP0.95 per share.
The Kirkland team was led by corporate partners Mark Thompson and Matthew Elliott; real estate finance partner Jonathan Birks; tax partner Jonathan Kandel and antitrust and competition partner Mark Gardner.
Summit Partners, a global alternative investment firm, today announced the first and final closings of two funds with combined capital commitments of USD2.2 billion. Summit Partners Europe Growth Equity Fund III closed at its hard cap with EUR1.1 billion in total commitments and will target equity investments between EUR20 and EUR70 million in Europe-based companies. Summit Partners Venture Capital Fund V also closed at its hard cap with USD1.0 billion in commitments and will target equity investments of USD10 to USD60 million in growth stage companies based primarily in North America. Both funds were significantly oversubscribed.

MVI Advisors (MVI) has held the first closing of its second private equity fund, MVI Fund II AB (Fund II) with commitments of SEK688 million. The Fund has a target of SEK1 billion.The Fund will continue to execute the successful strategy implemented by MVI since 2011, through buyout investments in high-quality, small companies in the Nordic region.
Fund II will target control investments in companies that have solid fundamentals, show potential for strong organic growth, lend themselves to buy-and-build strategies and are positioned to take advantage of sustainable industry trends.

Mourant has advised private investment house and longstanding client, Ardian, on its eighth-generation secondaries fund. The platform has attracted USD19 billion of commitments from investors globally. The programme, which includes USD5 billion of co-investment interests, significantly exceeds the USD14 billion raised for Ardian’s seventh generation platform in 2016.
The fundraise highlights how the secondaries market has matured to become an important source of liquidity for investors, including insurance companies, pension funds and family offices, as they look to re-balance private equity portfolios and seek yield opportunities for savers.

Unigestion, an independent specialist asset manager, has completed the third closing of its direct investment vehicle, Unigestion Direct II, taking the total size of the programme to EUR375 million (EUR600 million final target size). The fund has also finalised its second investment.
In addition, the firm the firm completed the first closing of its secondary investment vehicle, Unigestion Secondary V, with total commitments of EUR 228m (EUR700 million final target size).

Unison, a provider of procurement, supply chain, and contract management software to Federal government agencies and government contractors, has been acquired by global investment firm The Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG), and Unison management. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Carlyle previously owned the business from 2005 to 2010.
