Bloc Ventures Limited (Bloc), a venture capital company focussed on early stage European deep technology investment, has raised over GBP20 million in equity funding from UK industry leaders. The latest funding round was led by Michael Spencer’s investment company IPGL Limited and supported by a number of other industry leaders including Warren East, Christopher (Jock) Miller, Gavyn Davies, Stuart Roden, and Stephen Catlin, who also serves as a non- executive director on the Bloc Board. As part of the round, Samantha (Sam) Wren, CEO of IPGL, also joins as a non-executive director.

Independent fund and corporate services provider, the Aztec Group, has appointed Joe Greenwell as Associate Director of Business Development.Based in the Group’s London office, Greenwell will be responsible for identifying and developing business opportunities in both the real assets and private debt sectors. In this position, he will work closely with client-facing teams and product specialists across the Group, playing a central role in determining strategy and commercial focus in these sectors.

Duff & Phelps has acquired Lucid Issuer Services, Lucid Agency and Trustee Services Limited and Fluyd (Lucid Companies), European providers of securities solicitation and loan and bond services solutions. The deal builds on Duff & Phelps’ business services offering following the firm’s 2019 acquisition of Prime Clerk.

While CEE fundraising levels are still far from the levels seen before 2008, a fresh study by CMS shows that private equity investments reached a record high of 318 deals in emerging Europe in 2019, accounting for 16 per cent of all deal-making there.
Private equity firm Ironwood Capital has appointed Patrick Patrell as an analyst. Patrell, who will be working on the firm’s Connecticut-focused investment activities is ,responsible for reviewing new investment opportunities, conducting research, performing financial modelling and due diligence, and ongoing portfolio management.

Patron Technology, a live event technology specialist and a portfolio company of private equity firm Providence Strategic Growth, has acquired GrowTix, a Salt Lake City based ticketing and registration company with a large clientele in the convention and fandom event space. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

And in Europe, PE healthcare specialist investor Global Healthcare Opportunities (GHO Capital Partners) are tapping in to investor demand; its GHO Capital Fund II, which closed in November 2019, attracted EUR975 million, some 50 per cent larger than its inaugural fund in 2015.
