MMC Ventures, a research-led VC investor, has launched a new GBP100 million Scale Up Fund to provide expansion capital to its later-stage portfolio companies.
The Scale Up Fund will provide primary capital to current portfolio companies that have grown beyond the mandate of MMC Ventures’ existing funds. The Scale Up Fund can also participate in secondary transactions, offering liquidity to early MMC and third-party investors. In this way, capital can flow back into the early-stage funding ecosystem while MMC takes a longer-term outlook.

Independent insurance broker Lockton has launched a Asia Pacific (APAC) Transactional Risks Division with two senior appointments – Will Seccombe as Business Leader based in Hong Kong, and Mindy Ng as Vice President based in Singapore.
Seccombe and Ng both arrive to Lockton from Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT). Seccombe, a 30-year veteran in the insurance sector, was most recently Managing Director of JLT Mergers and Acquisitions Group in Asia. Overall, he has 10 years’ experience leading insurance teams in the APAC region, as well as managerial roles in Japan and South Korea.

A new report is predicting a big increase in the number of Indian tech ‘unicorns’ – privately held start-up companies valued at over USD 1 billion – from the current 30 to nearly 100 by 2025.
The inaugural India Tech Trends Report by mid-stage technology investment firm Iron Pillar reveals that while India generated almost one unicorn per year between 2011 to 2017, the number spiked to 11 in 2018, with 10 so far in 2019. Of the country’s current 30 tech unicorns, 21 of them were created in the last two years.

An increase in M&A activity in the current challenging economic environment is driving significant growth in demand for M&A insurance products, according to a new report by Aon.
The report – Insurance for M&A: a coming of age and an exciting future ahead – finds that following a decline in M&A activity after the 2008 financial crisis, the volume of deals reached pre-recession values in 2015 and has continued to increase. The recent economic environment has been favourable for M&A as interest rates remain low, company balance sheets are stronger, and deal activity rises significantly amongst private equity firms.
