Palatine Private Equity has completed the management buyout of SMP Group, after receiving regulatory approval for the deal. Floreat has completed an investment into fintech firm CreditEnable via its Principal Investment Fund I Limited, which is headed up by Jeff Sinclair. CreditEnable, which was recently named as one of the Inclusive Fintech 50 by MetLife foundation and Visa Inc, provides technology and credit analytics solutions for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) lenders. Carey Olsen’s corporate team in the Cayman Islands has advised Brazilian corporate fitness startup Gympass on its latest funding round which has secured commitments of USD300 million – investment that puts the valuation of the company at more than USD1 billion. The company, which was founded in Brazil in 2012 and moved its headquarters to New York in 2018, has more than 40,000 gym and studio partners and provides monthly passes to over 2,000 companies in 14 countries so that they can help pay for fitness programmes and classes for workers.   Gympass’ latest funding came from Japanese investment group
Research from Cambridge Associates, the global investment firm, shows that investments by sector-specialist private equity funds outperform those made by generalist private equity funds by 4.7 per cent. For investments made from 2001 to 2014, the average Internal Rate of Return (IRR) on investments made by private equity funds focused on a single sector was 22.6 per cent, compared with 17.9 per cent for investments made by generalist private equity funds.
