The last two years have been a boon for global private equity managers. In 2017, total net new assets reached USD552 billion according to Preqin, and although slightly down in 2018, the asset class still attracted USD426 billion.
With close to USD1 trillion in net inflows, it seems investors can’t allocate to private equity fast enough, snapping up co-investment and secondary opportunities to supplement their primary allocations as they seek to maintain healthy long-term returns in what remains a low-rate, low-return environment.

UK SME finance provider Maven has completed a GBP450,000 debt funding package to Reed Thermoformed Packaging Ltd (trading as “iPac”) via the North East Development Capital Fund, supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

2018 marked another record year for global venture capital financing, with a total disclosed value of USD185 billion (EUR165 billion) raised across more than 12,500 transactions, according to new analysis carried out by Hampleton Partners.
The company’s latest report reveals that total transaction volume grew five per cent per year from 2014 to 2018 across the globe, while total value raised grew by 13 per cent, suggesting that funding rounds are becoming larger.
The Asia-Pacific region registered the largest number of deals in 2018 at 6,676, followed by North America with 5,640 and Europe with 2,601.

Intechnica – a Manchester-based technology business – has closed a GBP2.85million funding round led by investment group Mercia.
The lead investment of GBP2.0million came from NPIF – Mercia Equity Finance, which is managed by Mercia Fund Managers and part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund. An additional GBP750,000 was invested by Mercia Technologies PLC and GBP100,000 by existing private investors as part of the funding round.
The funding will help the company to grow its cyber security division, Netacea, in the UK, North America and other international markets, and expand Intechnica’s consultancy services.
