FreeOx Biotech, a spin-out of Hospital Clinic Barcelona-IDIBAPS which is developing a new class of neuroprotective drugs, has closed its first round of funding with EUR500,000 from private investors Montserrat Esteve and Francisco Javier Alsina.
The biotechnology firm has two highly promising molecules in its pipeline to treat stroke and other diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) – Ox-01 and Ox-02.
With this funding, the company will carry out formulation and preclinical trials with in vivo testing on Ox-02 in order to determine safe dosage for the first testing in humans and assess the safety profile.

Carey Olsen has worked with Clarity, the creator of a new blockchain platform for small businesses and investors, on the initial coin offering (ICO) of its Clarity Project utility token.
The Clarity platform is designed to be a one-stop shop for small business owners worldwide, giving them complete access to, and control over, their data. MEIF Maven Debt Finance, managed by Maven Capital Partners (Maven), has agreed a six-figure loan funding solution to Tienda Limited (TL), a ‘turnkey’ interior service provider.
The capital will be used to finance a new contract, which runs over five years, to refit up to 700 outlets including a Building society, Banks, coffee shops and convenience stores. Six jobs will be created in the region as a result.

Maitland has been appointed as the AIFM, Fund Administrator and Company Secretary for the new Merian Chrysalis Investment Company.
Maitland will provide AIFM, fund administration and company secretarial services for the new Guernsey-domiciled closed-ended investment company, which raised GBP100 million on its initial issue and has a premium listing on the London Stock Exchange.
The company will invest in unlisted stocks and is co-managed by Richard Watts and Nick Williamson.

The Calumet Wex Group, an omni-channel retail chain for photographic products and services in Europe and a subsidiary of Aurelius Equity Opportunities SE & Co, is to acquire a majority interest in Foto-Video Sauter from its managing partner Bernd Sauter.
Foto-Video Sauter generates annual revenues of around EUR22 million, operates Germany’s biggest photography shop in Munich, and also has an online shop and retail space in Rosenheim. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2018.
Also after the acquisition, Foto-Video Sauter will continue to operate under its strong brand name as an institution devoted to photography
Private equity firm IK Investment Partners’ (IK) IK VIII Fund has acquired a majority stake in Infradata Group (Infradata) from Waterland Private Equity Fund V (Waterland).
Infradata is a provider of cybersecurity and secure networking solutions across Europe. Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Infradata was founded in the Netherlands in 2004, where it continues to be headquartered. The company has an additional presence in Germany, UK, France (Nomios), Belgium, Poland and the US, with ambitious expansion plans. The company provides cybersecurity and secure networking solutions, from design and delivery to aftermarket support and managed services.
Ironwood Capital has exited its investment in SAFE Security (SAFE). Ironwood served as lead investor in a subordinated debt investment made in October 2016.
Founded in 1988 and headquartered in San Ramon, California, SAFE is one of the largest providers of security alarm systems in the United States.
SAFE provides alarm monitoring and related services to over 100,000 customers in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Canada.
