In one of the largest investments in the legal tech industry to date, Casetext, which provides artificial intelligence (AI)-based legal research technology for lawyers, has closed on a USD12 million Series B funding round. Aspinall Capital Partners and Perscitus have completed the joint acquisition of powder coating company Vertik-Al Limited. Led by Jon Moulton’s family office, the transaction was facilitated by debt funding from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank.   Under the terms of the agreement Vertik-Al and its group companies have become subsidiaries of a newly formed holding company.   Following the transaction, Graham Brown has been appointed MD of the group, while Angus Mackie has taken on the role of group financial director. Increasing regulatory pressures and technology demands are putting more pressure on private equity firms to outsource their administration services. The European merger and acquisition (M&A) climate in 2016 was similar in value and volume to 2014, a good year, but not as frothy as 2015, according to the CMS European M&A Study 2017 from law firm CMS. Social engineering schemes continue to grow in their sophistication, and phishing campaigns, in particular, are causing concern as they make their way to employee inboxes. Inbound merger and acquisition (M&A) investment into UK computer software companies has increased by 70 per cent over a two-year period, according to a report launched by Livingstone, an international mid-market M&A and debt advisory firm. The report, The Acquirers – A Global Review, includes analysis of data from deals conducted between 2014 and 2016, across the UK, US, Europe, and Asia. Private equity firm Warburg Pincus is to acquire a 35 per cent shareholding in Avaloq group, a fintech company specialising in banking solutions, from existing shareholders. The transaction values Avaloq in excess of CHF1 billion. Detailed financial terms have not been disclosed.   Under the agreement, Warburg Pincus will partner with Swiss-based Avaloq to accelerate the company’s long-term growth and value creation strategy.
